Hair We Go: Making Waves …. One Strand at a Time. Hair Tips from Samitra Salon/ San Francisco!

One of the most common questions I see in my email is how to achieve that great beachy waves hair style. It sounds easy but often it’s about hair length and texture, the type of styling products as well as the technique that one needs to use to achieve this fun — and gorgeous– look!

A girl has to do what a girl has to do and I turned to Samitra Salon in San Francisco for tips on how to achieve this look.

When it comes to lounging by the poolside or tanning at the beach, the absolute last thing you want is dry brittle hair. Sun, saltwater and chlorine can cause serious hair damage. The harsh UV rays and chemicals can turn your hair color to a nasty shade of green and even result in hair loss. For the quintessential California girl, it is essential to nail effortless yet perfectly tousled beach waves. With a few simple tips, mastering the look of the summer is at your fingertips.

Voluminous and wavy, beach hairstyles are the go-to style for its simplicity and natural look. From a loose side braid to classic waves, Samitra Salon master stylist Samera knows just the right look for each client. Focused on making sure her clients feel beautiful from the inside out, Samera’s eye for the latest hair trends will make everyone soaking up the sun green with envy.

Samera recommends using a texturing spray such as Apres Beach from Oribe to give your waves a tousled look.

—For people with straight hair, she recommends braiding your hair before you get into the water to allow it to set.

—For those with frizzy, curly hair, swimming in a braid or bun, then letting it air naturally will give you waves to last all night.

  1. These are excellent ideas. I use braiding a lot for both my up-do, and to create waves when i want to let it down. The product might help me retain my waves for a longer time.
