Wishing You Could Be an Olympic Class Athlete? You Can Train Like One — with 24 Hour Fitness!

I have been avidly watching my favorite sports of the Olympics on TV and online. It’s stunning to watch and I love to see athletes perform– even if they don’t achieve medal status. That they got to participate in the Olympics is a coup that few people get every four years. It’s all about building bridges with competitor athletes from other countries.

Yet, part of me gets downright wistful about wishing, hoping and thinking I could have been that level of an athlete. I am betting that most of you have had that dream too! While maybe you aren’t the world’s best fencer. Honestly wearing that mask is NOT easy! I have tried it. You might not be the best swimmer either. While you might not be at the level of an Olympic athlete, you can still work on getting better. Olympic athletes spend years devoting themselves and their lives to their sport. You don’t have to go that far, but you can make a commitment to yourself to be fitter and work at attaining reasonable goals whether it’s to lose weight, be able to run a mile without stopping because you are out of breath or learning a new skill set. There are many solid reasons to put yourself first and commit to getting fit!

24 Hour Fitness, a proud sponsor of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) and Official Fitness Center Sponsor of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams, introduces a Team USA Bootcamp into all club markets , as the Rio 2016 Olympic Games began.

What is Team USA Bootcamp?

Team USA Bootcamp is inspired by Team USA athletes, and the five distinguished “Team 24” U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Team athletes announced by 24 Hour Fitness earlier this year.

The workout:

The 50-minute program is a fun, fast-moving interval strength circuit-style workout that delivers total body conditioning, core challenges and mental training that will leave participants feeling like champions. The mix of workout movements begins with a group warm-up, moving briskly into a cardio challenge, lower then upper body circuits, and a core circuit. Between each circuit is a unique Team USA Challenge—an energy blast that combines physical and mental abilities, similar to the challenging training regimens of Team USA athletes.

Members of Team 24 include:
Conor Dwyer: an elite swimmer and Olympic gold medalist participating in individual and relay
events. Dwyer won a gold medal as a member of the winning U.S. 4×200-meter freestyle relay team at the London 2012 Olympic Games. In total, he has won 14 medals in major international competitions.

Gwen Jorgensen: a two-time world champion triathlete and the only U.S. woman to win back-to-back
elite world titles in triathlon. She holds the women’s record for career ITU World Triathlon Series (WTS) wins with 15, and she has won every race she has started since May 2014 for 12 consecutive wins on the WTS circuit. In 2015, Jorgensen became the first triathlete —man or woman—to complete an undefeated season.

Lex Gillette:  (above center) one of the top visually-impaired long jumpers in the world, winning the silver medal at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Paralympic Games. Cortney Jordan: (above group photo, right)  a two-time U.S. Paralympic swimmer with medals from both the 2008 and 2012 Paralympic Games. Jordan won eight Paralympic medals in her classification: one gold medal
(50 meter freestyle), five silver medals (50m freestyle, 100m freestyle-twice, 400m freestyle twice) and two bronze medals (100m backstroke, 200m individual medley).

Since 2004, 24 Hour Fitness has proudly partnered with the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams to support Team USA’s top competitors as they work tirelessly to bring home the gold. More than 100,000 athletes have passed through the Olympic Training Centers and utilized equipment provided by 24 Hour Fitness in their quest to compete at the Games. 24 Hour Fitness also helped design and outfit the High-Performance Training Centers (HPTC) in London in 2012 and Beijing in 2008, and this dedication continues with the HPTC at the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Team USA relationship also offers interesting opportunities for club members and consumers to engage with the athletes and the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games including:

The View Inside:
24 Hour Fitness helps to design and outfit the High-Performance Training Center at the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games and provides the expertise to staff it as well. More than 700 employees of 24 Hour Fitness from throughout the U.S. applied for the honor of serving the athletes as Fitness Ambassadors, of which 18 candidates were selected. Their “view from the inside,” will be shared through 24Life media channels for members to enjoy as the Rio Games unfold.

About 24 Hour Fitness:
Headquartered in San Ramon, Calif., 24 Hour Fitness is a leading health club industry pioneer, serving
nearly 4 million members in over 400 clubs across the U.S. For more than 30 years, the company has
been dedicated to helping members change their lives and reach their individual fitness goals. With

The program is made up of sequences from the actual workouts of 24 Hour Fitness’ “Team 24″ athletes.

For reference, “Team 24” is a group of Olympic and Paralympic athletes that serve as ambassadors for 24 Hour Fitness. Team 24 includes Conor Dwyer (elite swimmer and Olympic gold medalist), Gwen Jorgensen (two-time world champion triathlete), Alysia Montano (middle distance runner and seven-time US outdoor national champion), Lex Gillette (top visually impaired long jumpers) and Cortney Jordan (two-time U.S. Paralympic swimmer).

In short, the 24 Hour Fitness team sat through hours of video footage of these athletes training for this summer’s Games in Rio and designed a full-body, bootcamp-style workout incorporating moves/sequences they use in each of their actual workouts. This class allows gym-goers to LITERALLY train like an Olympian.

In the meantime, here is some info on the Team USA partnership with 24 Hour Fitness and the “Team 24” Olympic and Paralympic athletes.

I love that 24 Hour Fitness partnered up with the TEAM USA and the Olympic committee for 2016. I have been working on pretty much the same goals as the Team  USA Bootcamp at home. It’s slow and takes time and patience but it’s worth every second because I get better every single day!
