Great -and Easy- Wine Pairings for Food You Really Eat! Belated National Wine + Cheese Day!

National Wine and Cheese Day was July 25, and I missed it! Yes, there really is such a thing– about pairing wines with food! I often wonder about what should be eaten with wine– and different varietals (the type of wine it is) along with the flavor profile make a difference in what you eat.

Thankfully I have friends in all kinds of places and spaces, and someone gave me a quick tutorial on everyday foods that would partner well with certain wines!

You whipped up your perfect grilled cheese sandwich and looking for something to take it up a notch!

Wine to sip:

Rosa_Regale

Banfi Rosa Regale:
This sweet and light sparkling red cuts through the melty, sharp cheese.
I have featured this wine on this blog before. It’s exquisite and goes with many different kinds of foods. It’s incredibly light and amazingly yummy!

Chips and More!

You know what it’s like to start a bag of chips — and you don’t stop till the bag is empty. What you typically need when eating chips is a bottle of wine rather than the beer or diet soda.
Rather than deal with potato chips (because I am immensely picky about the brand and flavor), when I want a real splurge (calorie and otherwise), Cheetos are my weakness!

cheetos (1)

These super crispy cheesy bites are salty in the best way, and addictive as hell. The only bad thing is the orange residue on the fingers. Make sure you have lots of napkins!

Wine to sip:

Natura_Chardonnay_Un-Oaked

Natura Chardonnay – the wine’s natural acidity goes well with crunchy Cheetos.
This wine will be able to hold it’s own against the Cheetos. It’s a solid match!

Cheesecake– shown here, Cherry Cheesecake:

I like cheesecake but it has to be the right presentation. I like more of a dry cheesecake or something with a topping like this cheesecake.
This looks yummy. I love cherries more than I like strawberries and complex cheesecake flavors.

Wine to sip:

PR_Sweet_Riesling

Pacific Rim Sweet Riesling – the sweetness of both the wine and cheesecake pair well for a dessert treat.
If you have never tried a Riesling before, you will have a treat in store. Rieslings are known for sweetness and often times there is a bit of a “green” flavor too. You might think they are too sweet, but this combo works because the sweetness of the wine and the cheesecake is a great balance rather than contrast. The Riesling is light and almost airy in texture.

Mac & Cheese

Mac & cheese is a popular dish. It’s not only a hearty meal, it’s a great comfort food when you just need something to eat (and you don’t know exactly what you want). I am featuring the image of STACKED’s (Food Well Built) Rosemary’s Chicken Mac&Cheese. I pulled this from an earlier post I did on Stacked’s launch of various mac & cheese presentations.

Wine to sip:

Riunite-Lambrusco

Riunite Lambrusco – this light and bubbly red pairs perfectly with the creaminess of Mac & Cheese.
Mac & Cheese has a really defined flavor profile. It’s not shy about the cheese. If you dress your mac & cheese up the way I do, you want the wine to be able to stand on its’ own with the flavors of the dish. This wine will do that without leaving you a super- dry palate.

All these wines are from the Banfi wine collections!
