As Superbloom pandemonium ends, Californians are anticipating one of the worst spring allergy seasons in recent years due to the increase in pollen count and other environmental factors. While there is nothing that we can do to prevent this, there are practical ways to keep allergy sufferers from feeling trapped inside the house during beautiful spring days.
Zyrtec is sharing tips on how to manage your spring allergies during one of the worst allergy seasons California has even seen. These tips range from OTC recommendations, outdoor advice and things we can do at home to combat the allergens in the air.
As a person who has significant environmental allergies, I know how pollens can negatively impact my life. I use almost every single one of these tips that Zyrtec has shared below.
• Focus on People – Not Pollen:
Plan your outdoor activities for when the pollen count is low – usually before 10 AM or after 4 PM – so when you’re out with friends and family, you can just focus on enjoying your time together. Another good time to venture outside is after a heavy rain shower, when most pollen has been washed out of the air.
• Dress for the Occasion:
When you’re outside, cover up with items like hats and long-sleeve shirts. Wearing sunglasses is also helpful, especially when it’s windy, so you can avoid any pollen or mold spores that are flying around.
• Trade Consistent Symptoms for Consistent Relief:
Find an over-the-counter allergy medication that provides relief that won’t let you down when you’re out and about. For example, ZYRTEC® provides consistent, 24-hour allergy relief of indoor and outdoor allergy symptoms. It starts working hard at hour one and works twice as hard when you take it again the next day.
• Leave Outdoor Allergens Where They Belong – Outdoors:
Once you’re done with your outdoor fun, put your clothes in the laundry basket right away, take a shower and wash your hair. This helps reduce the allergens that you track back into your home.
• Assess What Makes You…Achoo!
Keep track of the local pollen count using a resource like the ZYRTEC® AllergyCast® app, which provides customized notifications when pollen is high in your specific area. This unique app also analyzes weather information from 41,000 zip codes, search and social media trends to provide you with an Allergy Impact score that lets you know how that day’s allergens might make you feel, so you know what to expect before you even leave the house. You can also log your personal symptoms over time to get a better sense of what’s making you sneeze and use that information when making future plans.
Whether or not you are in California, pollens will be everywhere in almost all 50 states as consistent sunny weather hits each of the 50 states. You can’t stop pollen being in the atmosphere, but you can take charge of the situation by taking a good antihistamine like Zyrtec.
