Do you ever wonder about finding a ‘good-for-you’ beverage that would give you the relaxation provided by a “hard cider”? Since I am writing so much, it’s hard to have a cocktail and get back to work. I would love to have a beverage that is actually a healthy thing for me to drink. I also want that beverage to taste good with a tasty flavor, but it can’t be too sweet! Kombucha is what I am talking about, but until now I had not found a hard kombucha. Since I started learning and hearing about hard kombucha’s, it’s been a bit of a struggle to find a flavor profile that I would happily drink every day.
Now I have a beverage that does deliver the qualities that I was seeking and it’s called Flying Embers Hard Kombucha!
About the brand:
The brand was founded by Bill Moses who was CEO and Co-Founder of KeVita Sparkling Probiotic Drink, which was acquired by PepsiCo in 2017. Again he has created another innovative drink for millennial consumers. Flying Embers Organic Hard Kombucha currently comes in three flavors:

Each refreshing, smooth flavor is fermented with black tea, botanical adaptogens, and a kombucha culture with live probiotics. All Flying Embers Hard Kombuchas have a unique botanical adaptogenic base of roots including ginger, turmeric, ashwagandha, and astragalus.
Flying Embers is USDA-certified organic, gluten-free, vegan and has zero grams of sugar at a sessionable 4.5% abv.
I was provided retail size samples of Flying Embers for this review. Samples help me to be able to review a product and tell you what my opinion about the product. I give you my honest opinion on the product and how it works or functions.
I was offered samples and I happily accepted that offer. I had not heard of Flying Embers and wasn’t sure I would be able to find it in stores near to me. I did make a sweep of 3 different stores: Ralphs (Krogers), Pavilions, and Sprouts. They didn’t carry the product. However, when I used their store locator, I found several stores including independent liquor stores, chain liquor stores (BevMo and Total Wine + More) as well as some other chain markets like Lazy Acres and Mother’s Market.
I got a can of each Ginger & Oak and Ancient Berry. I approached this Kombucha as I would a beer, which is with caution since I really don’t like most beers. These Hard Kombuchas were a very pleasant surprise.
Ginger & Oak
Ginger & Oak is a very savory kind of beverage. There is very little (if any) sweetness to the beverage.
The mouth-feel that I got when trying it left me with a surprisingly whiskey-like after taste. I am not saying it has whiskey in it. (There is no whisky any of these drinks). It’s the texture of the ingredient combination that made me think it’s much more masculine of a flavor than it is a feminine flavor. I thought of colder evenings and friends over sitting around watching some sports and sipping this. The visual was what I thought as I was sipping it. It’s not my favorite flavor, but it did grow on me as I kept sipping it. My husband tried these hard kombuchas too and he loved this one. It was his favorite and I gave him the bottle to finish — which he drink it all throughout the day. The Ginger & Oak is his first choice of the flavors. I did steal a few more sips and the more I experienced the flavor of Ginger & Oak, the better it got.
The Ancient Berry flavor is distinctly sweeter but without being “sticky sweet”. The elderberry and goji berry provides a distinctive balance to the sweet raspberry flavors. Without the goji berry, this would be an ok flavor; but with the goji berry flavor and texture, this provides a depth of berry sweetness meets tart berries for an interesting and more complex flavor blend that one would expect. I liked it a great deal. It’s lighter weight sip but definitely one you would enjoy. If you wanted a sweeter beverage, this is the one you want to try. If you love the flavor of berries, you will LOVE this hard Kombucha!!
Lemon Orchard wasn’t included in the package so I won’t comment any more than I like lemon flavored drinks. If I am drinking Kombucha, I gravitate towards a lemon-flavored drink by personal choice. Lemon Orchard has lemon, lavender, mint and ginger as the flavor profile.
