Getting the Golden Globes Glow: Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s Look by Nick Barose!

I  love Gugu Mbatha-Raw. I have followed her career for years. She has a unique style and look whether on the red carpet or while seen about town. Her look is so distinctive. And Nick Barose took her unique looks and crafted a gorgeous makeup for her for the Golden Globes. He bounced his creativity off the gorgeous metallic sequined dress she was wearing. The color suited her perfectly and Barose is known for his work creating a “killer look” that is memorable. And Gugu’s look for the Golden Globes is stunning!

Nick Barose Shares Gugu’s Beauty Breakdown!

“To play up the color of her sequin yellow dress, I wanted to do some strong graphic lips in a matte orange tone. The bold, matte orange Armani lip is a fun alternative to the classic red. Orange makes the look feel more quirky and it also compliments Gugu’s golden complexion. I kept the rest of the face understated but also played up the brows to make them a bit stronger, more defined, with flirty lashes.” – Nick Barose

GET THE LOOK:

COMPLEXION:

To prep the skin, Nick massaged the Armani Prima Glow On Moisturizing Balm thoroughly on face and neck, allowing the product to absorb into the skin.

–Then he applied the Crema Nera Extrema Volume Reshaping Eye Serum under the eyes.

–As a final skincare step, he prepped the T-Zone and forehead with the Fluid Master Primer to control shine for red carpet.

MAKEUP:

Moving onto makeup, Nick started by applying Luminous Silk Foundation in 6.5 and 7.5.

“I usually use 2 shades of foundation to help sculpt the face, apply lighter on center of face to brighten up the complexion and the darker one around perimeter of face, blend with dampen sponge.”

Nick used the yet-to-be-released complexion product from Armani and used it under the eyes and blended with a bit of the liquid foundation over it for a seamless finish (new product will launch in March).

To add a hint of color, Nick used the Neo Nude A-Blush in 53 on the apples of Gugu’s cheeks, blending around the edges with a damp sponge, followed by Lancome Blush Subtle Palette in Nectar Lace.

To highlight, he used the Neo Nude A-Line Highlight in 10 and dabbed the liquid highlighter on top of cheekbones and brow bones.

EYES:

Nick started the eye look by playing up the brows by brushing them up and filling with the Smooth Silk Brow Pencil in 2. He wanted to make the brows appear fuller and more elongated but also feathery to define the eyes and balance out Gugu’s bold lips.

To create a metallic eye look, Nick blended 3 different shades of Eye Tint Liquid Eyeshadow in 6, 41 and 27.
Apply the darkest shade (27) on outer corners of the eyes, then apply the medium shade (41) in center of lids, followed by the lightest tone (6) in the inner corners and brow bones. He repeated this on the lower lash line as well.
He followed with Smooth Silk Eye Pencil in 12 on the top and bottom, smudging it to blur the lines, then tracing over upper lash lines with the Eyes To Kill Proliner in 1 and winging it out slightly.

To finish, he curled the lashes and add a few coats of Eyes To Kill Classic Mascara.

LIPS:

For a bold lip, Nick prepped the lips with the Ecstasy Balm. Once the lips are hydrated, he blotted the excess and applied Rouge D’Armani Matte Lipstick in 401 directly from the tube to get the full intensity of the color. He finished by defining the lips by outlining the edges with the Smooth Silk Lip Pencil in 6.

Nick Barose did a tremendous job on Gugu Mbatha-Raw. She looks absolutely gorgeous on the Golden Globes red carpet.
The colors he selected are perfect and they highlight the best elements of Gugu’s bone structure.  Giorgio Armani has some great new products and to see them “in action” for a big red carpet event, definitely makes one want to run to the Armani Beauty counter and do some shopping!

Thanks to Nick Barose for his great work and for his beauty breakdown. He does such an incredible job!
The new products from Armani Beauty sound amazing and should be something you investigate when you next visit the Armani Beauty counter!
