Stylist Linsey Barbuto of Perlei Salon Suggests You Do Curls for Valentine’s Day!

Whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day with your loved one, or just your girls, there’s just something super romantic and special about bouncy curls. Leading artistic director and founder of Perlei Salon in New Jersey, Linsey Barbuto has shared her go-to tips to get those curls that will leave you feeling fun and flirty all night.

Curls will vary depending on what type of tool (or no tool) that you use.

Blow Dryer:

–Size does matter. Opt for a smaller round brush. The smaller the brush, the tighter the curl will be.
— Use high heat when working your ends, roll the brush all the way in and  let the hair on the brush to cool by using the  “Cool Shot” (if you have one)  on the rolled-up brush or just hold the brush with the hair wrapped around it for a few seconds.
–For more volume, add mousse to your wet hair before styling.

Curling Iron:

Always use a styling spray and a heat protector before you curl your hair. Using both products helps the                       longevity of the curl and prevents the ends from getting “fried”.   With a curling iron, you can manipulate the               curl a bit more to be done horizontally or vertically.

Traditional bouncy curls: curl your ends completely. Hold each curl for 10 seconds. For a tighter curl, pin             with a  clip so it cools in a tight curl position before releasing.

Beachy Waves: wrap the curl away from your face, but be sure to leave the ends (about an inch) out rather               than rolling them up with the curling iron.

Flat Iron:

If you find that working with your hair-dryer is tricky and don’t own a curling iron, no worries!  You can still get                             beautiful curls with your flat iron. The trick is to never stop moving since flat irons typically leave creases.
Gently wrap hair around the iron as you slowly slide the iron down.
(You need to make  sure you use both a styling product and a heat protectant on your hair when using a flat iron!)

No Heat:

Luckily there are so many great options if you don’t want to apply heat to your hair.  My favorite is using foam                                rollers for defined curls.
For looser curls or waves, braid your hair the night before.  The trick is to use a curl-defining cream or gel with                                non-heat styling. My personal fav is Oribe Curl Gloss.
