Are You Confused by Recent Current Events? D.B. Leighton Shares “Remedies of Confusion”!

D.B. Leighton is back with another poem. This one is very different from the one he allowed me to publish earlier this week.

My understanding of this poem is that it is a commentary on New York City and the current COVID-19 crisis. More than just this health crisis but also the other events that have occurred due to this pandemic event and the inconsistency of leadership.

I am using images to share the feeling I got from the interwoven events that include “panic buying”,  horrific numbers of people who are ill and those who have passed away along with the fragility of the stock market.

                                            Remedies of Confusion

                   by D. B. Leighton

I can’t get no bearing, I’ve done lost my feet,
The sick and the dead, they’re lying out in the street,
Yet the pinstriped penguin says we got to compete,
So let us all kneel to the markets.
Say hey, Mr. Mayor, you didn’t shut down on time,
Now we pay the fiddler while you jingle a rhyme,
Your inept suggestions should be grounds for a crime,
Bet you have wet dreams that you’re Rudy.
From Washington the orangutan’s destroying his mic,
He’s shrieking at shadows from his exercise bike,
His attempts at existing are so unstatesmanlike,
But the people just love that he’s honest.
The CDC is bullied, that’s a foregone conclusion,
Our government officials, they’re sick with delusion,
And we’re sweating Remedies of Confusion.

People shopping and hoarding products and the stores have empty shelves.

Thank you to D.B. Leighton for this very timely poem. I found that the more I read it,
the deeper the meaning of the work of D.B. Leighton
