Not only is it prudent to take extra security precautions given the proliferation of mobile devices to the point we give them to kids to play with and we (meaning me) walk around with a bluetooth device stuck in our ears. While hotspots grow to the point that we can carryt around our OWN hotspot devices, we need to "man up" and get smart about what we are doing. Not just kids, but you, me, significant others as well as our parents and grandparents because Kindles and Nooks are vulnerable too!
Scott Schober is definitely one of those people who has a lot of information on tech and mobile devices. Given that hacking seems to be getting easier, one wonders about personal security not just in terms of data, but personal information and locations. As shown in the hacking of President Bush's personal photos, nothing is sacred.
We know how mobile devices simplify our lives but they also put us at great risk-- in terms of personal and business security-- and it's not just us but now given the way that people are tracking what we do and say on and offline via check-ins. Because kids, teens, elderly and each one of us has typically have one or more mobile devices, it's more than just shutting them down-- it's about shutting off the bluetooth as well as other suggestions the Schober makes in this podcast.
We need to monitor what are children are doing but more than that what we and our parents are doing too. Too many people walk around giving the virtual world a road map where they are. - and there are programs to monitor computers but what about the cell phones and tablets?
There lies the question-- what information do we have on our various devices and what security do we have on those same devices. Whether it's screening what children watch or figuring out that when we send videos out to facebook or twitter- do you have a way of curating who sees it or do you just blast it out to the world.
Thanks to Scott Schober, CEO & President of Berkeley Varitronics!
