I love to have a special cocktail for the week. It makes summer more fun– and enjoyable. It makes the week or weekend more special — more party-like. Here’s a twist on a mojito featuring a new liqueur and also a brand of rum made out of Panama. Fairly new to the US, Ron Abuelo Rum is 75 years old– so it’s quality. The parent company, Varela Hermanos, is over 100 years old. The Mariposa Agave Nectar liqueur is distinctive and tasty!!

Food for After the Fourth: VeggieGrill Gives Great Taste & Options with a Vegetarian Perspective
A new not quite “fast food” restaurant opened up near me and I was invited to the preview “soft” launch of this chain. VeggieGrill is a West Coast chain that’s predominantly in California but with a couple of locations in Oregon and a couple to come in Washington as well as an expanded presence in Northern California. It’s the new kid on the block that’s sort of like 5 Guys, Chipotle and some other chains but focusing on strictly vegetarian cuisine, done with style but in a semi-fast food manner. This quick bite veggie meal is in the neighborhood of an upscale burger resto but with a broader spectrum of presentations and with significantly healthier fare.

Five Crowns & SideDoor Have a New Chef to Create Hot New Dishes!
Five Crowns, a member of the Lawry’s family of restaurants, and its sister restaurant, SideDoor, have announced the hiring of Executive Chef Greg Harrison. Harrison will take the lead from Chef Ryan O’Melveny Wilson, who will continue as the Executive Chef for Lawry’s Restaurants, Inc. Five Crowns and SideDoor are based in Corona Del Mar on Pacific Coast Highway in Orange County. Five Crowns is a high end restaurant that’s been a staple of the culinary landscape of Southern California.
