Itunes has chosen UK musician Nick Saunders "Book Thieving" and Paraffin from his debut CD RESONANCE as featured tunes for the week. Definitely a "must hear", this low-key singer/songwriter has nailed some nifty emotional threads in the entire RESONANCE CD. While I haven’t heard the CD, I have listened to the tunes listed on Saunder’s myspace page, and it’s silky musicality and lyrics that are like private conversations or even ones that you have with yourself.
Saunders evoke a unique quality in his presentation and as one reviewer called it "dreamlike" — the dreaminess is there. It’s soft, and requires your attention to get the quiet knowledge/life experiences that Saunders wishes to impart and share. While he seems almost sad or laid-back in his presentation, there’s a lot going on as you peer into his musical emotional world.
Book Thieving — amazingly graceful tune about a childhood memory. .
Paraffin— not on the CD but on his myspace page is well worth checking out for the sheer loveliness.
The above 2 tunes are available on Itunes for download
Resonance– beautiful opening guitarwork that hypnotizes you as you listen and the song "resonates" in your brain– and your heart.
Toffee Apples— another tune from the CD that’s somewhat relationship oriented in that the sweetness is no longer there between them– the changes as people and relationships evolve.
Reckless Son— also not on the CD but definitely a "must hear" because it’s more about his self-awareness but it’s a gorgeous tune.
Blue– here’s a tune that’s shows the stretch. A bit of jazz-infusion blending piano and guitarwork that’s terrific. This is probably my favorite of the collection that I could listen to. The lyrics are a snapshot of "real life" .
Green— another personal presentation with piano that’s softer, slower but again sucks you into Saunder’s world of his lyrical/musical poetry.
The acoustic performance and his terrific voice lulll you deceptively while his lyrical themes silently snake their way into your psyche. He’s got a lot going on this Nick Saunders.
Don’t miss him! Wish he were coming to the US! You can buy his CD RESONANCE at 7Digital
I would highly recommend getting the entire CD and spend some time noodling around Saunders webpages because most of the Resonance CD is there for your listening pleasure. I will try to get more 411 on Saunders and his music and come back with a more complete review.
