Want to lose some weight? Finding it hard to get motivated or stay on track? What if I told you that there was a totally painless way of losing 10 pounds in a year- without exercise and with very little deprivation? Unbelieveable, right? Actually it’s very do-able!
Fitness pro, Sally Hughes guest blogs on an easy way to lose 10 pounds in a year.
Super simple, it’s possible for anyone to lose 10 pounds in just a year. A few stray calories here and there cut out of things you eat and you can do it.

How To Lose 10lbs Yearly – No Miracles Required! – 100 Calories a Day = 10 Pounds a Year!

With so many “miracle” weight-loss formulas, pills, solutions, rubs, diets, and plans these days it’s hard to make sense of it all. Yet, if any of them actually worked, nobody would be overweight. Consequently, my advice is to get back to the basics and do a little old school math.

Fat-loss is based on a simple formula of calories in vs. calories burned. It takes a surplus of 3,500 calories to produce one pound of body fat and our body weight increases when we consume more calories than we burn. Conversely, our body weight decreases when we burn more calories than we consume. If the idea of burning 3500 calories seems daunting – fear not. You can lose 10lbs yearly – without deprivation – by averaging a mere 100 calorie daily deficit. It’s that simple.

Check it out:

If you consume 100 calories fewer every day (or burn 100 calories more every day), your weight loss for the year will be 10 pounds. Do the math: 100 calories less × 365 days or 1 year = a 36,500 calorie deficit = 10.4 pounds.

When you think about it, averaging a 100 calorie daily deficit is nada mucho and you can either slightly reduce your intake (or burn it off). Should you happen to consume more calories one day, then make up for it another day by either cutting some calories or burning more.

If you do no more than rid this meager amount from your diet, and nothing else changes in your caloric balance, you’ll automatically lose 10 pounds in one year. Again, NO deprivation required. In fact, you might not even notice you’re “dieting.” Add a 20-30 minute walk a few times a week, take the stairs instead of the elevator, and/or park farther away when hitting the mall or Costco and you’ll lose even more.

Most people who gain weight do precisely the opposite by slowly consuming more and more calories on a daily, weekly or yearly basis. Factor in that the average American gains up to 10lbs between Thanksgiving and Christmas alone and we have a serious challenge that could easily be eliminated by embracing this 100 calorie deficit plan.

Weight loss doesn’t take a miracle – just good sense – plus that little bit of old school math.

Yours in fitness and health,
Sally

  1. Fitbit has made me much more aware of calorie expenditure…and she is right..change in small increments works over time. Good advice to follow.
