When you hear about a new musician, singer or songwriter, it’s often that the person in question is all three things: singer/songwriter/musician- because that’s the nature of the music business. Often there multi-faceted elements of music or other skills like acting or writing are part of living with parents or other family members who are very creative.
Singer/songwriter/musician Eliza Spear comes from that sort of family. Spear’s voice is amazing and she is rich with talent. Spear is going to be at The Mint-Los Angeles for a performance celebrating her new single: There Has To Be More (I can’t give you an embed until the single drops on January 18. I will add the link/embed on 1/19/2019.)
While I could synopsize Eliza Spear’s background, The MINT has done all that already on their site!
What THE MINT has said about Eliza Spear!
Eliza Spear is new to the scene, but a seasoned musician, she has spent the past few years relentlessly fine-tuning her writing and her classic rock-pop-twangy sound. Her music speaks truths about coming of age, young love, and discovering who you are. Her lyrics are authentic, relatable, and delivered in a way that forces you to feel the emotion she felt when she created the song. She is singing her story, but it’s a story that everyone can connect to. Her energetic performances seem more like a hangout with the audience. Whether it’s a sad song or a joyful one, you can’t help but feel immersed in the story. The audience isn’t just listening, they are a part of the experience in every way, and that’s how she likes it. She’s a down to earth, a powerhouse of a musician, with the potential to inspire people around the world to dream big.
I love every word The Mint wrote about Eliza Spear. And I am going to share a tiny bit more about her that explains how she bloomed as a musician.
Eliza first discovered music through her grandmother, Phyllis Spear. Phyllis would come over to Eliza’s home and play piano for hours and hours, which encouraged Eliza to learn to play herself. She then joined a theatre group and sang every second of every day until her brother would yell at her to stop. She discovered writing through singing to her dog, and through this creative process, she realized she liked telling her own stories as opposed to illuminating someone else’s work. Eliza started performing at open mics around LA when she was 14, and she has booked herself every gig she has played since. She studies music production at Elon University in North Carolina while writing and working diligently to promote her music and her brand while being a full-time student.
What The Mint didn’t tell you is that her grandparents – Phyllis and Jack– were the creators and stars of “Pip the Piper” (see above) , an Emmy-nominated musical variety show that aired on ABC and NBC in the early 1960s. The pair wrote the scripts and all the songs as well as did a live performance television show!
And here’s a video sample to give you a tidbit snippet about her and her music. It’s a fun song and she’s playing the ukulele!
And here’s another video that shows off her gorgeous voice and her powerful singing!
If you are in Los Angeles, you can see Eliza Spear at any (or BOTH) of club dates
