This International Women’s Day, take a shot at the patriarchy by celebrating with the winning recipe of the annual BACARDÍ U.S. Legacy Cocktail Competition, created by Melina Meza of Los Angeles. Vying for the title of creating the next timeless classic rum cocktail, Melina’s “Nueva Sol” cocktail, was recently announced as the West Coast winner of the competition held in Puerto Rico.
In a historically male-dominated world, female bartenders are shaking up the cocktail world more and more in recent years. Melina will soon make her way to Amsterdam in May 2019 to present her innovative creation on the global stage and face the challenge with competitors from around the world.
Here’s Melina’s winning cocktail!!
Nuevo Sol, created by Melina Meza of Los Angeles, California
Ingredients:
· 1.5 parts BACARDí Anejo Cuatro rum
· .25 parts Amontillado Sherry
· .25 parts French Dry Curacao
· .75 parts Grapefruit Oleo Saccharum
· .75 parts Fresh Lime Juice
· Garnish with Nutmeg Dust
Preparation:
Combine all ingredients into a cocktail shaker.
Add ice. Shake vigorously.
Fine strain into a coupe.
Garnish with a dusting of nutmeg and a small flower.
