Celebrating 30 Years of  the Chado Tea Room!

August marks the 30th anniversary of LA’s Chado Tea, a family-owned and operated tearoom/tea shop that has led the charge in curating the highest quality, hard-to-find teas from across the globe. Since 1990, they’ve delivered the traditional afternoon tea experience of the UK and blended it with an eclectic mix of global teas, from Sri Lanka to Colombia.

Chado Tea | A Family and Minority-Owned LA Legacy

Chado Tea started in 1990 as a quaint tea room on West 3rd Street in the Beverly Grove neighborhood of LA. Reena Shah (below) and her late husband, Devan Shah (a major wholesaler and contributor to tea industry growth in the US) purchased the business in 1993 and quickly gained a local following of Angelenos fascinated with learning about tea.

By 2002, they promoted their longtime front of house star Tek Mehreteab (an immigrant of Eritrea, Africa with an inspiring story) to Co-Owner/Partner. Tek played an integral role in expanding Chado to four tearoom locations across Los Angeles (Pasadena, DTLA, Hollywood, Torrance). A true family business, Tek now runs day-to-day operations alongside Reena’s children, Bianca and Brendan Shah.

–Beyond the Chado brand, the family supports tea education by spearheading the Los Angeles Tea Festival.

Note from Stevie:

I have been to the Chado Tea Room in Downtown Los Angeles. I went with my best friend who had been there several times.  The service was amazing. The wait staff was very friendly. We had the BEST meal! We shared an array of tea sandwiches and sweets. My friend had some soup and I had a salad. The food was terrific. We ate far too much but it was such a great treat for us!

The array of tea products that you can get is phenomenal. It’s not hard to find something you want to take home!

  1. Hey, thanks for a great post, it seems everyone these days is trying to make a little extra on the side but it is so hard to find really good blogs like yours. I’ve also been following this guy for a while and have had some success as a begginer using some of his methods. Maybe some of your readers might find it usefull too. https://www.affiliatemarketing101.com.au
