ABOUT NEGRONI COCKTAILS:

Before you run out to any of these great places to have a Negroni cocktail, make sure you know what a Negroni cocktail is. You don’t want to order one at a restaurant or lounge and be disappointed because you don’t like the flavor profile.

What Is a Negroni Cocktail?
Here’s a great explanation about what a Negroni cocktail is from a UK website: REDONLINE.CO

The Negroni celebrates its 100th birthday this year, fitting then that it’s the drink everyone seems to be ordering at the moment.

An Italian creation, the negroni in its original form was a celebration of delicious Italian red vermouths, with some bitterness e.g. from the Campari added. The drink then developed with bartenders adding British gin to give it more punch but without detracting from the flavour of the vermouth.

The result? Just about the most gorgeous cocktail there is. In 2016, a ranking created by Drinks International placed Negroni at number two (just after an Old Fashioned) as the most loved drink in the world.

WHAT IS IT?
The Negroni is made up of dry gin, red vermouth, and bitters, it’s then garnished with orange. The bitters are usually Campari and the Vermouth commonly used is Martini (though this is the element most frequently and advisedly played with).

WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE?

A negroni is a bitter cocktail but the vermouth and orange garnish add enough fruity sweetness to balance it out.

The taste is herby, a bit rooty – think licorice root – and then there are some deep dark fruit flavors. The gin is present too so there’s that classic juniper tang, notes of lemon and coriander seed. It’s undeniably a strong flavor and definitely best saved until after 5 pm but the balance of bitter and sweet is inarguably gratifying and its syrupy thickness is delicious as you sip.

You might want to get a couple of friends and head out to “taste test” a Negroni at a few bars near you. OR if you are really interested, buy a bottle of a good gin, a great vermouth and follow the recipe that you can see on this page OR you can use this Youtube video that I am showing you below

Enjoy the rest of your NEGRONI week.  Just because Negroni week is ending,  you can keep experimenting with a variety of Negroni recipes.   You will find your favorite recipe and you can tweak it to make it YOUR Negroni recipe!
