It’s hot, humid and NOT fun in the sun! There is an answer for this scorching, steambath you are sitting in: National Watermelon Day. Not just the typical green thing you cut open, eat the red stuff and spit out the black stuff kind of thing, but it’s all about sipping something cool, thirst quenching with a slightly sweet taste of watermelon and a tang of a few more ingredients — like Plymouth Gin!
Try these beverage recipes. YUM!!!
Pink Melon
2 oz. Plymouth gin
1 1/4 oz Pink grapefruit juice
1/2 oz. Elderflower cordial–check a good local liquor purveyor.
1 dash of simple syrup
1 slice of watermelon –muddle this one up a bit to encourage the watermelon flavor.
To a shaker filled with ice add Plymouth gin, elderflower cordial, watermelon wedge, simple syrup and pink grapefruit juice. Shake vigorously to break up the watermelon. Strain into a tall glass filled with crushed ice.
Garnish with a watermelon ball and a slice of lemon.
Want something a bit different in flavor? Check out this one! Guys will love this one because it’s not all girly pink!
Plymouth Blueberry Watermelon Smash–Perfect for warmer weather.
2 oz. Plymouth Gin infused with blueberries
1 slice of watermelon, crushed
1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice (Try Volcano Organic Lemon Juice for a real blast of flavor)
1/2 oz. orange liqueur ( try Cointreau or some similar brand)
Top with lemonade
Shake all ingredients–except lemonade–with ice and strain over ice into a tall glass. Top with lemonade and garnish with a melon wedge and a few blueberries.
So toss back a couple of these and you won’t feel the heat at all. Just that slow cool refreshing breeze that comes from running the icy glass across your forehead.
