On September 8, 2007, ten local Long Beach bands will celebrate their indie musical journey through Long Beach and life by donating their time and efforts to benefit music-focused Arts Learning programs. Funds raised through this event will support the Artist in Residence and Passport to the Arts programs administered by the Arts Council for Long Beach. These unique and creative programs are offered throughout the city, employing artists as instructors and providing enrichment opportunities not available to students as a result of gaps in funding.
It is really interesting to see how the education bureaucracy doles out the $$$$ for education. It seems that to most educators, that the arts (music, dance, art,) are minimally important yet for children – of all ages- it is one of the most evocative ways of expression physically, emotionally, psychologically. Through the arts-whether a physical art composition, a dance presentation or a music -that a person can reflect what is going on with them in that moment- or show off a moment captured in time- much like a photograph- but living, breathing and evolving.
Arts education strengthens problem solving skills, encourages critical thinking, promotes understanding of other cultures and supports the development of a rich and complete person.
