Talking shop with some of the best makeup artists around is always fun for me. Cynde Watson — mark beauty’s head of makeup artistry– is a great person to talk to because she knows how to get your makeup on fast and you looking fabulous!
We had a chance to talk and here are my questions post-Grammy week — which makes it a perfect segue to Oscar week. These tips work anytime, anywhere , for any red carpet event!
LA-Story.com: What was her favorite look from the Grammys and. what colors, textures?
Cynde Watson:
My Favorite Looks:
Rihanna’s look was clean and classic, Natural skintone shades on the eyes with full false lashes to make them pop and a soft sexy shimmery pink lip.
Natasha Bedingfield look was Glam! Glam! Glam! Old Hollywood
Strong black liquid eyeliner winged out to define her eyes.
Beyonce’s look was FAB! A celebration of nude on nude shades.
Alicia Keys: The best skin award goes to Alicia Keys.
LA-Story.com: How do you replicate these looks? What techniques or products would you recommend?
Cynde Watson:
1) To replicate these looks: make sure that you start with clean hydrated skin.
2)To get the Alicia Keys GLOW add a highlighter to your foundation or swipe a little highlighter on the height of your cheekbone above your blush for a subtle glimmer.
3) Rihanna’s eyes are easy to replicate, apply a neutral eye shadow from lid to crease with a soft blender brush line your eyes very close to the lash to define. The most challenging part of replicating Rihanna’s eye is applying the false eyelashes.
If you can’t do them yourself go to a makeup counter or salon.
4) Natasha’s eyes were great. Start by applying a medium tone eye shadow on the lower eyelid sweep a bone or white shade on the brow bone. Finish the eye with a strong winged out black liquid eyeliner, false eyelashes and a neutral or white eyeliner inside the lower eye line.
LA-Story.com: Suggestions on how to translate a red carpet look to a special night for someone who doesn’t have access to a makeup artist but is doing it themselves.
Cynde Watson: Choose a look that works for your personality and skintone. It’s also a good idea to go to a makeup counter for a quick lesson or even search for tutorials online (they are a great way to learn makeup application tips).
Practice, practice practice!!!!!
LA-Story.com : Are there any other “looks” that you particularly liked — or thought were unique
and innovative in the use of color and texture?
Cynde Watson:
I appreciated Taylor Swifts look, Fearless and Full of Color! Electric blue eye shadow with a strong RED lip and some how it worked for her……
I felt Carrie Underwood was a bit overdone and not in the right way… sometimes less is more.
Thank you to Cynde Watson , mark beauty director of makeup artistry for her tips, tricks and techniques. We love mark beauty products and find that you don’t have to spend a lot of money to get glam– just get mark!
