Ever seen Mt Rushmore? I never have– though maybe I might make it to South Dakota to see it. (I hope that’s the right state). Actually last weekend Mt. Rushmore came to California– or rather a version of Mt. Rushmore to celebrate the launch of National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets DVD launch.
National Treasure 2, starring Nicholas Cage, Jon Voight, Helen Mirren, Justin Bartha and Diane Kruger, comes to DVD and Blu-ray May 20th from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment also features the national monument of Mount Rushmore.
The monument is one of the movie’s many awe-inspiring worldwide backdrops and plays a pivotal role at the exciting conclusion of the hit action movie.
Todd Vander Pluym, the world’s foremost sand sculptor, came to Venice Beach to create a giant replica of Mt. Rushmore, the American monument to four early U.S. presidents, (Washington Jefferson, Roosevelt and Lincoln).
After 2 days of gathering 400,000 pounds of sand the measurements of this sculpture exceeded 10′ tall x 25′ wide x 12′ deep!
Pluym and his team of professional and master sculptors have crafted more than 1,600 sculptures and holds nearly 200 sand sculpting titles.
Over the years, Todd’s work has been featured in major newspapers and magazines, such as the Los Angeles Times, People and the Smithsonian magazine, and on many television shows, including The Today Show and Good Morning America.
National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets is availablel on DVD, two-disc Gold Collection DVD and Blu-ray Disc on May 20, 2008 from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment. With a treasure trove of bonus features, the DVD is priced at $29.99 SRP; Gold Collection DVD and Blu-ray Disc are each $34.99 SRP
