Jay Nash Hits Hotel Cafe for CD Drop Party: Things You Think You Need Podcast Part 2

This is part two of the podcast with Jay Nash. The quality of the recordings for the last couple podcasts are iffy due to some wonderful technical errors but bear with me– they will be reformatted as soon the cavalry (aka new equipment + tech support) arrives.

The original podcast file was 43 minutes (longer than Josh Kelley’s!!) and I split this one in two since Jay offered such insight into his world of touring, music, life. I did cut this down quite a bit, this is just a hair under 15 minutes (not counting the open/close and introductory material)

What’s cool about this about Nash is that he’s completely authentic– a genius with putting the older influences from Dylan, Cat Stevens with contemporary sounds and yet mix in sounds that reflect other musicians (Jackson Brown, Procol Harem and John Mellancamp themes– both musically and lyrically– keep emerging).

With a mix of various instruments and voices, Nash comes through loud and clear on this CD and in this podcast– so that you can hear where he’s come from and where he is going. This is a musician and a CD that would be on your iPod, phone and on some sort of CD or car stereo arrangement because it’s something that once the disk is played, you really want to rev it up one more time. He’s that hot and Sara Bareilles on Barcelona is scorching hot. The video below is a song from the CD: Wayfarer. While Nash says that he writes from his own experience, it’s like he’s reached into your heart and soul and torn out a piece of your gut-wrenching experiences– both positive and desperate. His lyrics will get you immersed in his musical universe and you might not want to leave. I certainly don’t– he’s on that short list of musicians that I don’t get tired of hearing– I just have to stop listening because the songs cut so close to the bone that it’s painful. Wayfarer is one of those songs.

  1. unfortunately I did not make it to that event. I *wanted* to go but I had another personal event that night (one of my BFF’s birthday was that night with a big party + limo + LA nightlife).
I was so sorry to have missed it. Check out the post on the NY event for Rock The River.. It’s going to be killer.
