Deception is a movie that didn’t quite make it at at the theaters and I have no clue why because it has the star power of Hugh Jackman, Ewan McGregor and a fabulously gorgeous Michelle Williams as well as other lovely ladies in this seriously twisted thriller that makes you wonder where it’s going.
That might be the *exact* reason why you might not have seen it in theaters– however this movie is definitely a thrill ride for adults– and I am saying that for that very reason because it is rated R and while not exactly X-rated, it deals with a sex club– but that’s not the focus, it’s the vehicle for the deception as it’s an atypical sex club that nerdy neophyte McGregor gets introduced to by suave and darkly sinister Jackman where everyone is anonymous– referred to by their initials only. Michelle Williams (as one has never seen her before– she is so beautiful here) displays a vulnerability in her character and convincingly develops the strength to do what needs to be done.
I don’t want to give this plot away as the Jackman character is not all he seems. McGregor’s character gains much needed confidence and the plot thickens and dramatically twists and turns beyond belief that will leave you stunned at the end.
This is one of those great gems of a film that I would highly recommend with a caveat of the brief but extremely provocative sex scenes. They are essential to the story but like Lust Caution can be off-putting for those unprepared for this sort of behavior. However it’s simply a device to set up the plot. I found this a great movie– not for every taste– but this is a great one!
