Bringing On Day 8 of the 12 Drinks of Christmas! Matusalem Rum Hits the US Shores`

Matusalem Rum
was a brand that synonymous with Cuba and Havana! It was created in 1872 and was a major part of the Cuban lifestyle – until Fidel Castro came around and booted the brand from Cuba in 1959.

Now that Fidel is no longer in charge, Matusalem Rum is now back making waves on US shores about different ways to use this phenomenal rum. Yummy drinks and great ways to cook with it– is one of the things I can think about (Bananas Foster anyone? Add a shot of Matusalem Rum to the Rechuitti Burnt Caramel Sauce and pour it over ice cream!)
Theartofdrink.com provided some interesting notes about the history of the company as it was only a touch younger than Bacardi and got booted out of Cuba about the same time. Now Matusalem went back into production in the Dominican Republic employing a different method of blending rums so that there is some distinctiveness between the different brands.
According to the artofdrink.com, the Solera method is a way of blending a variety of aged rums into different configurations (much like Hennesy does with cognac)

Matusalem has 3 different classes of rum according to cubaheritage.org.
Ron= rum = a Biblical reference to Mathusalem because of the patient blending methods of the original family company.
Matusalem rum classes:
Ron Matusalem Clasico is an exotic golden rum, crafted from select rums aged in New World oak and solera aged for 10 years. It possesses distinctive quality and exceptional smoothness that enhances the flavor of any cocktail.
Ron Matusalem Platino is a unique blend of triple-distilled, handcrafted spirits, combined in a special process and then filtered and refined to create rum of exceptionally clean taste, delicate balance and subtle flavor. It is a discerning trade up for standard rum drinkers and a sophisticated alternative for premium vodka drinkers.
Known as the “Cognac of Rums,” Ron Matusalem Gran Reserva is solera aged for 15 years and can be enjoyed straight up or on the rocks. Both the recipe and the bottle have been passionately replicated to the exacting standards of the rum produced 130 years ago. It is the perfect choice for those looking for exceptional quality and sophisticated taste.

A youtube.com video about Matusalem Rum and why it’s so special– and it IS special.
This would be something you can to try in mojitos, different tropical drinks, mix it with cola and lime for cuba libre, hot buttered rum for something that’s about to take the chill out of your bones as well as straight on the rocks.
