Luckily for us, we managed to snag an interview with Poppy King, the brains and beauty behind the Lipstick Queen line of beauty products. You can find 2 other stories about Poppy King on this blog: Poppy King 1 and Poppy King 2
Poppy has been a busy girl! There ae so many new products like the Black Tie Optional
LA-Story.com What’s the inspiration behind the Medieval lip color?
Poppy King: In the Medieval era women squeezed lemons on the lips to sting them a beautiful red color. I have recreated the look of sheer blood red in a very smooth, Vitamin E based formula.
La-Story.com Tips on wearing the black gloss please! What are the best colors from the Lipstick Queen collection that can be worn with this gloss?
Black Tie Optional Collection
Poppy King: The black lip gloss is super sheer so it is not Gothic but more like sheer black stockings on the lips. It looks gorgeous on its own or over Pink Sinner for a beautiful smoky pink.
LA-Story.com: The SHINE collection: was this consumer-driven or was this part of the product expansion and how did you choose the colors?
Poppy King: Shine was a product I bought out in 1995 and it had a huge following. I bought it back out in its original form because so many customers were asking for it back. It is the same colors and the same super shiny, super sticky, super lasting 70’s lip gloss. Very different to the lip glosses of today.
LA-Story.com The look for holiday?
Poppy King: The sexy sheer black with shimmery eyes or super red lips with just a little mascara and black eyeliner.
LA-Story.com What’s the trend for spring going to be?
Poppy King: Bright pops of color on lips and cheeks and minimal eyes.
Thank you to Poppy King for her time in giving us the tips for holiday and a hint on spring!
