XMen Origins: Wolverine Breaks the Mold of Summer Flick Pack!

Got invited last week to a private screening of the X Men Origins: Wolverine with Hugh Jackman. Consider this a prequel’s prequel though this is really movie #4 and it’s amazing. Ok– let’s get real here. I did see it on the FOX movie lot in the Thalberg theater and it was chock full of great people.. it was almost packed.. but not quite. Got to see some interesting memorabilia walking from the “Sound of Music” parking structure past several vintage type streets and buildings. Tres cool, right?
When the movie finally started, we were dead silent because it was really interesting. It’s the history of Wolverine — and no spoilers here– there is a great deal of history that explains why Wolverine/Logan is who he is — and Logan isn’t his real name either. Also there are a number of new characters that show up and that mutants have been around a “long” time — surviving over centuries. So that’s a good way to set the story up for you.

A lot of this was shot in Canada and it must have been freezing cold for Jackman to run naked across the countryside and over a waterfall. (yes….. stark naked from a distance and it was him). In other words, ladies, don’t drink a lot of water or soda. The interesting part of this entire movie is that not everything is as it seems to be. There are characters that weren’t around in the first 3 XMen movies and then there are characters that pop up who are suddenly someone else. Some of the earlier XMen characters do show up and you will be surprised at who it is.

This is one of those must see movies and given the strength of the dramatic core of who Logan/Wolverine is and how he really feels and evolves over all the things that occur and are done to him, Jackman gives this character a lot more depth than one would typically expect.

This will be the movie against every other summer flick will be measured against– including Star Trek. I know someone else has seen Star Trek in screening and hopefully can get that person to contribute a piece on it too.

Ryan Reynolds.. who plays a surprising character.
I am providing NO spoilers here– but you will be pleased with the movie (though there were surprises and questions) and yet will have questions about the resolution– or semi-resolution when you realize that this leads you to XMen 1-2-3
