Jennifer Shaffer is a friend (one of a group of women who as so talented and giving that I am blessed to be part of this coterie of fabulous femmes). She has written a book , “One Beautiful Chaos” that will be releasing in July. While she waited for the release, her birthday rolled around and she decided to head to Machu Picchu in Peru for an adventure/excursion/seminar of a higher order (literally and figuratively).
Here’s a fragrament of her post from her blog:
My Birthday Today and the Quest from My Inner Child
“It takes a long time to grow young.” -Pablo Picasso
Today as I acclimate to the high elevation of Cuzco, I am amazed how my 40th Birthday has come to fruition. In a couple of days I will be heading out with a tour group from Cuzco to climb to the top of Machu Picchu here in Peru. I am fortunate enough to have Lisa Williams as my mentor and Holly Riddel as part of a team of guides.
A month ago my sweet husband Freddy told me how he was throwing a birthday party for my 40th. Two weeks prior to that I sent out what you would call an “intention” of wanting to spend my 40th seeking out this spiritual destination that something inside of me would not let go of. Financially I had no idea how that could even happen. Machu Picchu has been calling me for several years now. When he told me the dollar amount he was going to spend, it happened to be the exact dollar amount of this trip. Without hesitation after I expressed to him what I really wanted to do on my 40th, he said I better get my passport renewed and good luck telling Jack our son, who wants to travel everywhere with me.
When I told my publisher John Paul how I was going to spend my 40th his reply was to get everything handed in for One Beautiful Chaos so I could be present for the trip and know who I am at this new young age. Like the quote says, it has taken me years to understand how to grow young, and this adventure spoke of that inner child that wants to explore.

Jennifer and I exchanged some emails about her trip– since I saw her last Tuesday before she left for Peru on Thursday. Here’s what she had to say in reference to one of my questions (and I used the Disneyland metaphor)
It is absolutely a different kind of Disneyland with unknown fast and fun thrill rides…… This trip is way better than I even imagined. In Awe with gratitude.
If Jennifer posts another blog about this trip, I will be posting it. This is an unusual book but for those seeking MORE from their life– like squeezing the juice from the ripest fruit— this is something you will want to read.
