For those of you who know Oslo— going back to 2005, you are in for a treat. If you don’t know about Oslo, then it’s even better because you get to hear them here first. Not only in video- but also in podcast format.
OSLO’s emotive and engaging live shows and self-titled, self-produced debut release (2005) garnered significant buzz and coverage from Rolling Stone, Billboard, Music Edge, LA Weekly and the Los Angeles Times, which named OSLO one of the top 10 bands to download in the Fall of 2006.
In 2007, OSLO released The Rise and Fall of Love and Hate, co-produced by Grammy Nominated engineer/mixer Ryan Hewitt (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Mickey P (Beck, Peaches, The Eels) and Sam Fogarino (drummer, Interpol). The Rise and Fall of Love and Hate resulted in a publishing deal with SONGS Music Publishing, earning licensing placements on cable networks, major television shows and independent films.
This trio-based band has had several configurations over the years with a revolving door of drummers (that they talk about in the podcast)
California musicians Mattia Borrani (Vocal, Guitar, Keyboards) and Kerry Wayne James (Bass, Guitar, Keyboards) are 2/3 of the original Oslo. (The third– partner Gabrial McNair– is still on hiatus.) Borrani and James stayed in touch during the 3 year break (hear what they were doing in the podcast) both working on side projects in creative realms (Borrani in film; James touring with a band). Both kept writing and planned on a totally different project together when the OSLO spark reignited. You can hear the laughter, the kinship and the joy of their EP launch and this short tour as they hit the West Coast for fans and yet-to-be fans to sample their latest EP, High Mountain Sessions Vol. 1
They have two EP’s scheduled for release for this year High Mountain Sessions Vol. 1 (listen on their website. ). They have the contemporary punch of bands like Arctic Monkeys, Muse, and Placebo yet their dark, twisted, yet distinctive sound (some call it psychedlic because of their long riffs), Oslo brings hints of UK post-punk bands (Comsat Angels, the Sound, and the Cure (with a pinch of Alice In Chains!). Actually there are hints of Bowie in there and a few other bands that are dark with a twisted humor and satirical nature.
Their video for Superstar has already gotten some fantastic high profile exposure via AOL Music & Baeble Music– and is featured below the podcast.
Be advised that the original podcast was 58 minutes long and have edited it down to just about 35 minutes.Superstar Video– from the newest EP
