My friend Sally Hughes (personal trainer and fitness pro) told me recently about this great cereal she tried that was producing amazing results with her clients. She even wrote a blog post about it.
I did my homework and contacted the brand and they sent me a complimentary box. That’s when it got really interesting! It’s a great-tasting cereal that’s heavy in nutrition and would be great in my pantry.
The cereal: U.S. Mills Uncle Sam cereal that is a blend of toasted whole grain wheat flakes and flax seed. While it looks a bit like Rice Krispies, the cereal has more heft, taste and nutrition than 90% of the cereals out there. It contains
ALA Omega-3 courtesy of the flaxseed; has tons of crunch and gives you a satisfying meal with a bonus of being high fiber yet is low sodium and low sugar–less than 1 gram per 3/4 cup per serving. It’s crispy and crunchy no matter how you eat it: with milk, in yogurt, tossed into salads, or sprinkled over soup, veggies or potatoes.

Here’s what I like about the cereal.
1) it doesn’t taste like cardboard. The nutty taste makes it a tasty addition to your nutritional mix.
2) After you eat it, it fills you up and provides a serious amount of protein and fiber that will keep you feeling full for long periods of time. The satisfying crunch makes it easy to eat and I found lots of ways to incorporate it into my menu. It works well in a peanut butter sandwich; topping a baked potato or mac and cheese. I love it on a variety of veggies: from sweet potatoes to various green or root vegetables to add a little more crunch and protein.
I liked it so much that I bought 3 more boxes.

Stevie – thanks for getting the word out – Uncle Sam is a fantastic cereal and is so tasty that our kids enjoy eating it. I appreciate the suggestion of other uses. You’ve made me an ever bigger fan! Cheers!
Hey Jim,
glad you like the cereal. I love it. I use it as snacks– to mix into things– filler when you want some nuts and want to have a few ( — and not a bag-full). I also find it’s great if someone is baking cookies, cakes, cobblers — it works well as a crunchy ingredient for cookies, a topping for frosted cake and cobblers. Works well on ice cream..
To put some healthy ingredients into smores– put it between the marshmallows and the chocolate and then between the graham crackers and the marshmallows.. It slows down the sugar rush.
Have a great day. (guess I should turn that into a post huh)
