Living in a Perfect World: Does God Really Exist? Noted Theologian Discusses this with Keith Morrison.

People wonder-and ask — if there really is a God. It doesn’t matter what religion — but is there truly an omnipotent, loving being out there that created humanity or the earth (or not) that watches us carry on with our lives? Given what’s going on currently in the world, many wonder this. Others say we don’t believe enough in the “one true God”. Bishop John Shelby Spong describes faith and God in a way that makes our different belief systems feel less like dividers and more like unifiers of our humanity.

John Shelby Spong, retired Episcopal bishop from Newark, N.J., was interviewed by Keith Morrison on Dateline, NBC, 8-13-2006 and his commentary actually doesn’t discount the existance of God. What is seriously questioned is the need for organized religion because so many wars and people have died because they believed in an different version of an all powerful God or Goddess.

The point is that there is not ONE TRUE RELIGION. There is not one version of God that is almighty and the only one. Just as we all have different color eyes, hair and skintone and different abilities, we have different ways of looking at the world, humanity and even our faith. Just because you don’t believe the way I do doesn’t make you wrong or less of a person. It means you are entitled to your own beliefs. (sort of like that document called the Constitution but this is still about separation of Church and State)

Think about it. What’s YOUR take? Keep it clean, polite and no gutter-talk please

  1. Things that we cannot see but do experience, like the spiritual, is likened to a room full of people in pitch blackness. There’s an elephant in the room called God. People can feel the elephant with their hands and they describe what God is. Some feel a trunk, some a leg, a stomach, etc… and that’s what they describe.
Things like religion or the constitution, the light is on yet some people choose to use one hand to feel it while the other is over their eyes. Or they choose to look at parts because they believe the thing is too big. Not meaning that they are wrong or bad people, but the information is there and they can study or learn more about those things if they want to.
