The most interesting part of the “red carpet” events happens to be the actual RED CARPET itself– meaning watching all the celebs walk down the red carpet and talk to the press- particularly the women who are quizzed about the fashions they are wearing. Here’s my short version this time as everyone from Nancy Lichtenstein to Karen Starr DelloIancono are swamped to their eyeballs. I don’t even think they watched the show. (To be honest, I didn’t either. I was busy pulling images!)
Taking a page from the baseball, let’s make this evaluation easy to understand about what was right, what was missing, what was a mistake and how it could have been fixed.
Knocking It Out of the Park
Sofia Vergara
Sofia Vergara can do no wrong (except I guess when it comes to her brows according to brow guru Joey Healy). I saw her live on TV that and the dress fits perfectly! The gems are incredible and she wears them well and her casual hairstyle allows her to be herself yet still be red-carpet glorious!!
Sarah Silverman
Sarah Silverman looks great. I know the jury is out on her shoes but what the heck! They are rather cool looking but I can’t imagine standing in them all night. However, that her dress only cost $60 is fabulous. It goes to show that you don’t have to spend a ton of $$$ to get a fab LBD that is red carpet worthy. It’s sexy without being extreme and just glorious!! She owns the look again with low-key hair and a minimalistic approach.
Kerry Washington
Kerry Washington got my attention at the Oscars and she does it again with this dress. The dress walks a fine line between too much and just enough — and Kerry rocks it so well because she keeps everything else — makeup and hair included– to a minimum. She “owns” the dress as she wears it. She recognized her perfect style at NYFW and nailed it from Marchesa!
Connie Britton
Nashville’s Connie Britton rocks the red carpet and even makes her character Rhiana take a back seat with this glorious dress. It’s just perfection with the right color copper and teal that pick up her eyes and underscore her hair color. The styling fits her perfectly and it makes you wonder why she’s not in more movies and why she isn’t wearing dresses like this on the show!
Christina Hendricks
Christina Hendricks partnered up with Christian Siriano for this gorgeous dress that works her curves to within a quarter inch and then some. She wears the dress comfortably and it doesn’t overwhelm her — she rocks it so well. The black is a great contrast against her pale skintone and her gorgeous hair. The red lipstick makes a great statement and her glow is all that she needs to have hit a homerun with this red carpet walk!
Jewel
It’s been a while since Jewel has walked this red carpet and she looks fabulous pulling off an almost monochromatic look that pulls her skintone, hair color and makes her eyes pop. She looks gorgeous in this dress. Her figure looks like it’s perfectly sculpted. Her hair style brings on a little mod meets vintage style– almost Gatsby-like but not. It’s a great mix of makeup, hair and incredible style!
Michelle Dochery
Michelle Dochery is wearing a phenomenal dress from Prada. It’s unique in style and color and the design is quite distinctive because of the bow in the back. I love the way it flatters her coloring and doesn’t overwhelm her figure. The carved out shoulders and darted waist create defining points for her body along with the unusual high/low hem you sneak a peek at her amazing shoes. Everything works synergistically and Dockery looks stunning! It’s one of the most unusual dresses of the Emmys because of the color and the styling. She wears it easily and the lack of embellishment makes an epic fashion statement.
Carla Guigno
Carla Guigino has been in TV shows and movies and everytime she is seen on the red carpet or on the screen she looks different. Now we get to see the real Carla Guigno that reflects her sense of style, personality with a flare for flattering color, an unusual attention to detail with the cut-outs on the dress that ramp up “sexy” but without overwhelming her. She looks phenomenal with a low-key hair style yet has a few jewelry embellishments for a bit of sparkle. She knocked it out of the park!!
Jane Lynch
Jane Lynch has lots of options being on the hit show GLEE to show us her red carpet style but she did this one right by wearing a fabulous black not-too-tailored suit with a bit of cleavage and rocking those sexy heels. Add in the edgy hair style, great makeup and a killer bag to tie it all together- who said black pant suits were boring never saw Jane Lynch take it up about 4 notches!!
This is the end of the HOME RUN group. We will cover some of these people and a few more when I return with Jill Kirsh of Jill Kirsh Color— the Guru of Hue-– to talk about color and red carpet gowns in about a week.
