This Saturday, August 11, 700 plus teachers and 1 million crayons will come together for the Crayon Collection’s One Million Crayon Drive at Westfield Culver City so that local teachers can get what they need for the school year.
The LA-based organization, CRAYON COLLECTION, is a nonprofit that supports teachers, the environment, and arts education by donating gently-used crayons to schools across the country. The average teacher spends $900 out of their own pocket each school year so their students can have the supplies they need. Studies have proven that children with arts education perform better in all subjects, including math, reading and writing.
The drive is set to break the GUINNESS WORLD RECORD for the most crayons donated to charity in eight hours.
WHAT:
Crayon Collection, the nonprofit that supports teachers, the environment, and arts education by donating gently-used crayons, will donate one million crayons at its back-to-school Million Crayon Drive in Culver City on Saturday, August 11.
This family-friendly event will have free learning opportunities for the whole community, including
-hands-on workshops where kids can work with animators from Nickelodeon to create crayon art projects,
-participate in the Crayon Collection Color Kindness Program where students will sort, re-pack, & include their own handwritten note of positivity to be delivered to students receiving the crayons and more.
-Artist Yassi Mazandi will also be on hand to create an interactive maze made out of the crayons that guests can walk through.
