I am the ultimate “California Girl”... having been born here (Southern California) and we never moved away. My mom was a beach fanatic! She loved hanging out at the beach. We borrowed my grandparent’s house every summer for at least 3-4 weeks in Carlsbad, California. Her best friend and her kids would share the house with us and every day was a beach day (unless it was overcast, then we would go to the movies). This marvelous beach house was only about 6 blocks from the beach. While the moms wanted us to walk down to the beach, they realized that it would be a big mistake to expect 8 kids who were no more than 10 at the oldest to get settled on the beach. One mom would pack us into the car and help us unload the gear to stake out our spot on the beach. Then that mom would go back and get the last bit of stuff (food, sodas, water) and the other mom. Every day the car radio was playing music from the local San Diego rock & roll station and the Beach Boys were always playing at some point. Someone would have a portable radio tuned to a different station- so there was no escaping the music of summer when we were on the sand! The Beach Boys have the quintessential summer music catalog. By the end of the 3-4 weeks, we all knew the lyrics of all the Beach Boys songs – plus everyone had a killer tan and thoroughly thrashed flip flops and tennies. (This was before the days of sunscreen.)
So it’s no surprise to anyone who knows me (and how much I love the beach), that I would run this post featuring Mike Love of the Beach Boys.
On Thursday, 5/30/2019, The Beach Boys’ Mike Love released his version of the Ramones’ classic, “Rockaway Beach,” which is the lead track off of Love’s forthcoming album, 12 Sides of Summer.

Legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee, Grammy®Winner, New York Times Best-Selling Author, co-founder and chief lyricist of The Beach Boys, Mike Love, is set to release a new album, 12 Sides of Summer on July 19 through BMG.
To celebrate, Ramones drummer Marky Ramone joined The Beach Boys on stage at The Paramount in NYC to perform the song. This marks the first time the legendary musicians – from two of the most iconic bands in American musical history – have shared the stage together.
