Chef Beth Ginsberg, Executive Chef for the Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) provides great tips to eating healthy this holiday season and getting a jump-start on fulfilling the most common New Year’s Resolutions, eating healthier and losing weight.

1. Eat healthy and low-fat snacks during the day. Have a high protein snack such as a pear and almond butter or a low-fat protein snack before attending a holiday celebration.

2. If you overeat sweets and high fatty foods at one party, eat carefully and diligently the next day (e.g., egg whites, a fruit salad and some low-fat protein).

3. Always maintain your regular exercise program during this time of year. Don’t make the typical excuse that there is no time. If you keep yourself motivated, then January won’t seem like a drudge.
Looking for a workout that can be done regardless of the weather? Check out rebounding AKA Mini Trampolines workouts. You can create your own workout but it's best to get some professional guidance (via streaming videos, downloads or DVDs) on how to do your workout safely.
I found rebounding to be exceptionally helpful to me. I bought the best rebounder/ mini-tramp that I could afford! I bought a trampoline from JumpStart.com and found that I love doing mini-trampoline workouts. It works out (and I work out too) so well for year-round workouts– regardless of weather. You can find out more about JumpStart Trampolines here. They also have streaming workouts as well as DVD workouts!
4. For every alcoholic drink you down, chase it with a large glass of water. Avoid sodas and juice, and opt for flat or sparkling water.
Also, if you want to minimize the alcohol but still participate, try a wine spritzer or this white wine sangria (mixing white wine with chopped fruit). The recipe for this white wine sangria (see below for the image) can be found here: Marnie Rae Mocktails
5. If you’re at a buffet, take a smaller plate and choose wiser selections. There is always a chicken dish, salad, and vegetables available. Save some calories for small portions of dessert. Choose your favorite dessert and eat only half of it or split it with a friend!
Here's a non-dairy avocado chocolate mousse that looks and sounds amazing! The recipe and photo can be found here: ASassyspoon.com
6. Never show up to a party on an empty stomach. This is a recipe for serious gluttony, particularly since it’s practically impossible to resist the aromas of great food when your stomach is gurgling and hungry!
It is estimated that 42% of all cancers are preventable with the right lifestyle changes. The PCF, the world’s leading philanthropic organization dedicated to funding life-saving cancer research has recently published a new FREE health, nutrition, and wellness guide as a pathway to a better understanding of what we can do to optimize our health.
The science in the "Living Well, Beyond Cancer" health and wellness guide was written with prostate cancer patients in mind. This guide provides valuable information for ANYONE interested in living a healthier lifestyle and preventing disease.
