The loss of Kobe Bryant is still reverberating in the blood, brains, and hearts of his numerous fans. I am one of them. I am a big fan of the Los Angeles Lakers and I really loved watching Kobe Bryant play. Not only would I watch with my husband who is glued to the LAKER channel on cable, but I would meet up with a couple of girlfriends and we would watch the game while we were out to dinner or just grabbing coffee & dessert.

Sunday morning I was at ISSE (hair and beauty) convention. I was checking emails and messages for replies and confirmations. I read a news flash Gigi Bryant had died in a crash.. and I was surprised. Then I googled Kobe Bryant and saw that he had died too. I was so shocked. It seemed impossible that he would die in a helicopter crash. He took a helicopter to get to Staples from Orange County for every home game or special event for many years so that he didn’t get caught up in traffic. To know that he died in a helicopter crash is very strange for the man who used it as much as he did.

Not only will Kobe be missed in basketball and what was his blooming “second act”, but he was an all-around nice guy. He knew he could help others to do better in their lives.

In the course of this week, I received several messages telling me how sad they were to hear about Kobe’s and Gigi’s passing. One of my Facebook friends, a writer/poet/author who knew that I liked the Lakers and he sent me a link to a poem he wrote about Kobe. I am sharing this with you today!

Now gather ye rosebuds while ye still can,
let me tell you the story of a god become man,
he used his gifts to amaze and astound,
his talents they knew no bounds,
a shooting star that’s run aground,
his flame may be gone,
but his spirit lives on,
and though the Valley may weep,
his memory in all of our hearts we can keep.
