At the 77th Annual Golden Globe Awards on Sunday evening, c used Leonor Greyl products to create an ethereal updo for Cate Blanchett—nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical Comedy for her work in Where’d You Go, Bernadette.

“Cate wore a beautiful Mary Katrantzou dress, which was the inspiration for the hair,” Vetica says. “We wanted the hair to be soft and ethereal to keep things from leaning retro.”

Beginning with clean, wet hair, Vetica applied Leonor Greyl Mousse au Lotus Volumatrice to provide texture and volume. Pairing Olivia Garden Ceramic+ion Hair Dryer with Olivia Garden Private Collection Ceramic Bristle Brush 1.5″ provided smoothness and shine while minimizing frizz.
After creating a side part, Vetica reached for Leonor Greyl Laque Souple styling spray and the Olivia Garden Ceramic+ion Flat Iron. Starting at the front of the head, he divided hair into two-inch sections before curling.
“I sprayed Laque Souple on each section, then used the iron to create a full curl to give the hair body,” he said. He repeated this process, section by section, until all hair was finished. “I sprayed each section before and after with Leonor Greyl Laque Souple to ensure shine and hold,” he says.
Once all hair was curled, he brushed out the hair and used an “ample amount” of Leonor Greyl Laque Souple for hold.
Next, he back-combed all over before using Leonor Greyl Voluforme styling spray on only the roots.
“Using the Olivia Garden styling brush, I brushed the hair into the desired shape, clipping as I moved along the sides and toward the back,” he says. “Once I was happy with the shape, I secured hair to the back of the head and used bobby pins to achieve an unkempt knot—all the while, spraying Laque Souple for hold.”
Vetica lightly finished the style with fingers, strategically pulling out flyaways to frame Cate’s face.
“Doing this helps achieve a soft, feminine, unkempt hairdo,” he says. The final step: One last misting of Leonor Greyl Voluforme where needed.
