Wondering Who’s Going to Win an Oscar? Check Out Global Rescue’s Predictions!

There are many people who try to guess the winners for the Oscars. There are always some surprise winners! Oscars 2019 had some doozy  surprises- “Green Book” for Best Picture; Ramy Malek for “Bohemian Rhapsody” among others.

It’s not easy to prognosticate who’s going to win but there is someone out there who seems to have a knack for picking winners. Former Navy SEAL Matt Napiltonia runs rescue operations for a global company but he’s also spot-on with picking Academy Award winners!

“When our emergency medical team watched ‘Frozen 2’, all they could think about was frostbite and some of the new and innovative therapies to treat it. Our security experts – a band of former military Special Operations veterans – debated how to run a security extraction operation after watching ‘The Two Popes’. Nearly everyone weighed in with opinions about what to do with the lead characters at the conclusion of ‘Once Upon A Time In Hollywood’.”

Global Rescue’s Matt Napiltonia, a senior operations specialist and former Navy SEAL, provides a tongue-in-cheek forecast for the upcoming Oscars.

Oscar Picks from Global Rescue’s Navy SEAL

By Matt Napiltonia

It’s Academy Award season and many of Global Rescue’s favorite movies are up for the Oscar, and we have some predictions. Admittedly, our Oscar picks are largely attributed to the occupational hazards that come with being the world’s leading medical, security, evacuation, travel risk, and crisis management service company.

When our medical team watched “Frozen 2”, all they could think about was frostbite and some of the new and innovative therapies to treat frostbite. Our security experts – a band of former military Special Operations veterans – debated how to run a security extraction operation after watching “The Two Popes”. Nearly everyone weighed in with opinions about what to do with the lead characters at the conclusion of “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood”.

Hopefully, members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will consider our votes, presented here with tongues firmly in cheek.

Best Animated Feature – “Frozen 2”:

After the sisters’ last adventure to the North Mountain (the original “Frozen”), an arctic adventure to the legendary Ahtohollan has the royal family of Arendelle navigating natural disasters, bone-chilling weather, and near-death experiences. Queen Elsa is suffering from frostbite, severe hypothermia, and needs immediate medical attention. And if Elsa isn’t alive, then neither is Olaf, the magically permafrost snowman. Global Rescue Operations team members — already on the ground in Arendelle — suit up and board a helicopter to Ahtohollan. They wrap Elsa in space blankets and surround her with numerous rapid-deployment hot packs. As she thaws, medical experts begin CPR. Revived, Elsa shakes off the icicles and returns to her core temperature. With Elsa alive and magical once again, Olaf’s body materializes out of a mini snow tornado.

Best Picture – “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood”:

A once-famous actor (Rick Dalton) is now struggling to maintain his share of the Hollywood spotlight after an illustrious career as a Western TV star. Dalton and his stunt double (Cliff Booth) live next door to film director Roman Polanski and his wife, up-and-coming actress Sharon Tate. On the night of Aug. 8, 1969, members of the Manson family break into Dalton’s home where Booth is visiting and attempt to murder everyone. While everyone survives the attack, Booth is seriously injured and rushed to the hospital by ambulance. Global Rescue deploys a critical care team to Booth’s bedside to help oversee his care and coordinate his transport back to his hometown New York hospital of choice where he felt more comfortable receiving further care for his injuries.

Best Adapted Screenplay – “The Two Popes”:

In an effort to find a relevant successor, conservative Pope Benedict develops a relationship with Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio, a liberal-minded Argentine. Bergoglio’s early years as a Jesuit coincided with the 1976 rise to power of the military dictator, Jorge Rafael Videla, who kidnapped, killed, tortured, and illegally detained tens of thousands of real and suspected political opponents including students, priests and children. If Global Rescue existed back in 1976 its members in Argentina would have received security advisory and evacuation support. We would have planned and executed security evacuations in anticipation of the coup d’etat for hundreds of study-abroad student members as well as for the priests who were in country conducting educational and hospital mission work.

It’s no surprise that our medical, security, and intelligence experts watch and review movies in a very different way than most people. It’s to be expected when our personnel are involved in medical, security, and travel operations on a daily basis worldwide. Whether or not our fictional rescue operations approach to Oscar predictions comes true, you can bet that our 15-year history of rescue success will continue in real life.
