Welcome to My World~ Mercury Retrograde Strikes My Router + My Computer!

Mercury Retrograde is an interesting phenomenon. It happens at least 3-4 times a year and during that time communications of all types are problematic. While you might think your last letter to someone was clear, easily read, and sent in a timely fashion, you might find out that the person on the receiving end didn’t understand what you said, thought it was confusing and that it showed up late. Go figure that out– write it off to Mercury Retrograde.

Is Mercury in retrograde now?

In 2020, Mercury will be in apparent retrograde motion during the following ranges of dates: February 17 to March 10. June 18 to July 12. October 14 to November 3.

What does it mean when Mercury is in retrograde?

Mercury is known as the planet that rules all communication, B.C.-based astrologist Georgia Nicols explains. This means that when Mercury appears retrograde, people may experience communication issues, problems with technology, or even things like lost mail

Here’s my experience with this 2020 Mercury Retrograde.
I was working out in the garage when my husband came in and told me that our internet was down. He checked every connection on 2 computers three times and we did not have any loose wires but still no internet. What he did find is that the router was not working correctly.
He also mentioned that something was wrong with my computer!

I finished my workout and checked the router and the computer before I walked my dog(s) and found that my computer did indeed have a couple of issues. I clicked the option to get the computer to start the repair it said to do. By the time I got back from walking 2 dogs (* over an hour later), the machine had not completed the repair. I tried to reboot and got the same situation popping up again. NO desktop whatsoever!

I put in a call to our internet provider and was told there was no tech person available to speak to me for at least 45 minutes. I signed up for a call-back and went about getting ready for the day while still monitoring my computer.

I got the call from Spectrum and spoke to a tech person and he said that despite that we had checked the modem and router already 3 times, he wanted me to do it again. He told me which plugs to pull .. but failed to ask me if I was using the landline. When I pulled the modem plug, that cut off the phone call because I was using the landline. I got my cellphone and started calling back to Spectrum and the tech I had been talking to called me back. My opening remark was “Guess what line I was using when you told me to unplug both the router and the modem”. He said he had forgotten to mention that to me. I gave him my cell phone number so that I could unplug both the modem and router again. The bottom line of this conversation was that we needed one of the tech people to come out and check the lines and connections. Great! How soon could I get someone out (figuring that in 24 hours, my situation would be fixed.) The tech person said Monday late afternoon! I was talking to him on Wednesday early AM. That’s FIVE DAYS without the internet. I have a kid taking 3 online classes for school and we had paid mucho $$$ for these classes. I explained that to the tech person and he said he was unable to get anyone out there sooner.
I asked if we could replace the router because that was the cause of the lack of internet. He said he could ok us to get a new router if we took our old one into a Spectrum store and exchanged it. I told him to “sign me up” for this. I asked if we could be moved to a list for tech visit openings in case someone else canceled. He put us on that list too- but he also told me not to depend on its availability. We decided to keep the Monday appointment but hoped for an earlier slot to open up.

Also during this time, I was supposed to have 2 MD appointments over the next 2-3 days. I got a call telling me that some emergency had happened in the office and that the 2 appointments over the 2 days would be canceled. BIG PAUSE on my end. When can I get in to see the MDs? I had another appointment booked the following week but the main MD I needed to see would not be in. Currently, I am waiting for someone to call me and let me know what opening I can get. Have I heard back from anyone in the office? NOPE!

At this point, I was frazzled and knew that I had to get my computer to BestBuy where I have a TOTAL Tech Support contract which covers all kinds of repairs to appliances, electronics, and computers. I called the store and got the general line and they said to make an appointment. I had book the appointment online and I was able to get one for 1:40-2 PM on that day. However, I had to sign up for it and get my code to show them that would prove I had the appointment. So I am running around the house, doing the usual things like laundry, taking a shower, getting stuff done. I sent my husband to Spectrum to exchange the router and he was back in less than 30 minutes. Lucky man, he said NO ONE other than the staff was in the store. When he came home, it took a while to get everything hooked up and connected properly because it changed the router login.
That then changed a lot of things on our big screen TV for streaming programming– which all had to be updated.

When I got to BestBuy with my computer, I waited in line to get into the store. The couple ahead of me hadn’t booked an appointment for Geek Squad so the person checking people in had to explain the process. I finally got checked in and was told where to stand. The people at the counter didn’t get finished for 30 minutes. The people in front of me turned out that they had booked an appointment to buy a tablet when they should have booked an appointment for Geek Squad. There was only 1 person working the desk and by the time I got done, it was almost 3 pm. While they told me that my computer either needed a new hard drive or it needed a reinstallation of the OS. SIGH.. I was frazzled when they told me it was likely FIVE days for me to wait for my computer.

I realized that at 3 PM, I hadn’t eaten anything at all and I had only the water in the bottle I carry in my car. Consider me dehydrated and not really interested in cooking. Yet when I got home, I had to put together dinner which wasn’t done till 5 PM. I had to get the meals for the dogs ready plus laundry and relay all the information to my husband.
After dinner, I had to get my writing done since ZERO got done on Wednesday. And here I am today (Thursday), trying to work on my husband’s computer and trying to get things back to normal (FAT CHANCE!!).
The best thing I did on Wednesday was set up an auto-responder to let people know that I won’t have my computer back till Monday.

I am hoping tomorrow – which is Friday, things will be regaining some balance since today was spent connecting with various streaming sites to update our connection on each site. I have to get to Disney Plus so that I can get that correction/connection done so that we can see HAMILTON!

Please bear with me while this goes on. I am hoping (*and praying too) that the computer is an easy fix.
