Snapshots from So. California: Ashes and Dust at Sunrise!

In Southern California, we get a lot of debris and ash when fires are burning. Here’s what’s going on according to the State of California.

In all, there are six wildfires burning in Southern California. About 8,500 firefighters are battling the fires, which have collectively burned 175,000 acres

Here’s a website that shows active fires in various stages (including 100% contained and those not contained at all)

The 3 most active in Greater Los Angeles include
— the Bobcat Fire (*San Gabriel Valley and threatens MANY HOMES). This is only 6% contained and is raging through the hills above Los Angeles.
— the El Dorado Fire (San Bernadino, Riverside areas). This one threatens Big Bear area up in the hills. It is 44% contained
— Lake Fire up near Lake Hughes. This is 96% contained

The Valley Fire down in San Diego inland at the Cleveland Forest and if weather changes, it could get much larger.
Currently it’s 87% contained.

I took some photos last week of the sunrises over a couple of days. I am sharing 3 of them with you. These will also be shared on Instagram as well. These photos were taken with my Samsung S20 ULTRA phone.

Here’s a closeup of a sunrise that I saw just as it was coming up.

This was about a quarter-mile from the park and the darkness in the sky around the sun is ash and debris from the fires from last week

This is a long shot from a park near my house. I took this one because it gives you perspective on what it looks like in reference to homes. The house is across the street from the park and I am in the midst of a grass field between 2 different baseball diamonds  (hence the foreground fence and benches)

We had active ash showering all over houses and cars. The air quality is poor.

These fires are not out yet. We are still dealing with the  risk (for those living closer to the fires)  and ash and debris that is coming via what’s called the Catalina Eddy and it gets whipped up into the “eddy” and it comes down the coastline and ends up  over all of Southern California.

I will share updated photos as these fires continue to burn.

There has been NO color correction or adjustments made of the photos other than adjusting for the size of the photo.
