My friend DB Leighton sent me this poem.. and I love it. When I first read it, I read it rather swiftly without a lot of attention. It had a different format from what I usually see from Leighton. When I returned to this poem, I read it again and laughed more because I had a better grasp of the underlying themes and inspiration of this poem.
It’s not your typical poem; don’t expect much in the way of rhymes which I think is great because it will capture your attention faster without the rhymes.. and it’s much more meaningful too!

For shame on those who stoke the fires of perilous discourse,
their vainglorious wings fanning the flames of vanity’s folly.
Strident is their aim and confusion their counting house.
They barter lies with the livelihoods of multitudinous innocents,
too clouded by whirligigs to latch onto reasoning,
their existences lured by the sell of the snake oil,
the hawking of naked promises of wealth everlasting,
plagues raining down like the great fireballs that spelled the doom of ancient Pompeii,
while a leader wide of berth and short of digit rants into the void
a meandering dialogue best served for the sanitarium.
Fear not, for as troubled times mount ever higher,
the morning sun is still blind to the apoplexy of autocrats.
It will rise, day in, day out, eternally impervious to declarations hollow or fertile,
isolated in its own bubble, beating down the dark shadows to a new world.
