The weather on the West Coast is totally unpredictable. We are getting 45-degree mornings and maybe 65+ degree afternoons. I am not complaining (much) because at least we aren’t buried in snow or fog. I am grateful to be able to walk around with only one layer of clothing than the 3 layers I was wearing 2-3 weeks ago. However, despite the bright sunshine, I have dry lips that often peeling and my breakouts have been more than a little annoying. I know that wearing masks can cause acne. I got it when it was really cold outside and it was a “3-layer day” but when the weather started heating up, I realized I was sweating while wearing a mask. YIKES.. is there no end to this? Or is there at least a solution?
I was emailing back and forth with a friend who is on the East Coast who has similar problems. She told me about some Payot products that have worked well for her. I do realize that her situation is much more serious than mine, but this friend is also exceptionally savvy about skincare.
If she suggests a product, I check out the product… and so far I have not had any problems when using her product recommendations.
For the acne problems, here’s what she suggested! PAYOT Paris’ Baume Super Réconfortant. This balm works well once you have washed your face and you scoop out a pinky’s worth of the creme meets gel product. Apply it smoothly and start tapping or patting your face. I do a combination of both to help the product penetrate. It feels luxurious on my face and my face isn’t so parched.
Here’s the description that my friend said in an email .. and it’s so very accurate:
This ultra-nourishing cream is like a lifeline for a very dry, irritated skin. It melts in, instantly soothing and softening with no greasy finish. It also smells delicious, thanks to subtle notes of orange blossom, rhubarb, and rose.
Here’s how the Payot Brand describes this balm:
Multi-purpose care to use day or night, it will become your best ally in periods of extreme cold. The skin recovers absolute comfort, while tightness and redness are instantly reduced. You will love its transforming balm texture, which melts delicately onto skin to envelop it with a gentle caress, with no greasy finish.
I found that when I am heading out to walk my dogs in the early AM (6 -ish), this is a blessing because 45 degrees and below is pretty cold for greater Los Angeles. In my neighborhood, though we are near the beach, we have been getting temperatures that are the same as cities that are much closer to the mountains. Now that it’s warming up, I don’t have to use much of it, but it’s nice when I am done working out in the AM.
Here are the key ingredients in PAYOT Paris’ Baume Super Réconfortant
3 NOURISHING PLANT OILS:
Sweet almond, raspberry seed, and meadowsweet hydrate strengthen the skin’s barrier function.
SHEA BUTTER:
deeply hydrates and helps retain moisture.
ORGANIC COCONUT OIL:
replenishes skin’s lipids to alleviate that annoying feeling of tightness.
MONDO GRASS:
strengthens the barrier function and makes skin more resilient.
COCKTAIL OF PLANT WAXES:
Extracts of jojoba and mimosa create a comfortable balm texture that instantly soothes sensitized skin.
The smell of this balm is heavenly. It makes me feel good when I breathe in the scent.
My lips are dry and sometimes peeling– and I wanted something to help my lips retain more moisture. My friend recommended some new lip products from Payot too.. and these are right up my alley.
The suggested product is this limited edition lip product: PAYOT’s tinted Baume Lèvres Cocoons. They are adorable.. and the colors make you want to have multiples of these babies.
Available in Rouge Cherry (red) and Rose Candy (pink), these new, nourishing balms offer all the same benefits as the original Baume Lèvres Cocoon. This great lip balm is soothing, smoothing, and plumping your super-dry lips and does it with a pop of color.
For best results, apply with a fingertip. The balm turns into an oil that melts into your lips, leaving behind a subtly-shiny finish and the delicate scent of rose, orange blossom, and rhubarb. It feels so good when applied to your lips, that you will want one of the tinted balm/cocoons in your bag and at least one at home.
Available for $19 at us.payot.com
