One of America’s earliest craft distilleries, Dogfish Head Distilling Co. announced the coast-to-coast* launch of its scratch-made, ready-to-drink Canned Cocktail in mid-March! These new Ready to Drink canned cocktails are AMAZING and are so tasty that you will likely want to have a couple of 4 packs as a backup!
DISCLOSURE:
I was lucky enough to get a box from Dogfish Head Distilling Co. that features all three flavors of the new “ready -to-drink” cocktails plus a shaker, spoon and a a small bottle of each spirit that was used for each cocktail. I was dazzled by the huge box that showed up and started taking photos of the box’s components– which you will see in this piece. (the photo above is one of those photos).
I am disclosing this sample box because it was sent to me so that I could write a review on the products. Samples enable me to test-drive products so that I can give you my opinion about the product (s) in question without me having to buy a 4-pack of each flavor of these RTD canned cocktails. Providing me with one can of each flavor plus accessories really makes it easy for me to review these products. The fact that the products were sent free is great but it doesn’t affect my ability to give you an honest review. I took a slew of photos the same afternoon, and I am writing up this review less than 48 hours after getting the box of samples.
I appreciate that Dogfish Head Distillery sent me the samples because I don’t have to drive around to find the products. It does not affect my review other than make it easy for me to get this review done.

–- Blueberry Shrub Vodka Soda,
The Blueberry Shrub Vodka Soda is a great cocktail with real blueberry flavor. I like the pairing of blueberries and vodka.
Here’s a description of this Blueberry Shrub Vodka Soda:
It is an old-timey drink made from dark fruits macerated in sugar and vinegar. This sweet, yet acidic syrup was traditionally mixed with water or soda water for a flavorful refresher.
“Inspired by the James Beard Award-nominated bar program at Dogfish Head’s geographically-enamored seafood restaurant, Chesapeake & Maine, in Rehoboth, Delaware, this scratch-made Canned Cocktail begins with Dogfish Head Distilling Co.’s vodka distilled with blueberries. It is then macerated with lightly sweetened balsamic and red wine vinegar to create a blueberry shrub vodka and is blended with soda water. The ensuing deep, burgundy-colored libation is juicy and subtly sweet from the blueberries, with a slightly sour and complex fruity character from the vinegar. *L.A. Spirits Awards “Best-In-Show” winner in the ready-to-drink category.*
My take on the Blueberry Shrub Vodka Soda is that the blueberry flavor is great and it’s very clean. The overall cocktail experience is fresh and tasty. I love that it’s light on the tongue but you still get a serious cocktail out of this presentation.

This Strawberry & Honeyberry Vodka Lemonade is a real treat.
What is a Honeyberry? Honeyberries taste like a cross between raspberries and blueberries. They are excellent eaten fresh or in desserts, ice cream, preserves, and now … cocktails!
Inspired by Sam’s visits to his friend’s honeyberry farm in coastal Maine, this scratch-made Canned Cocktail features Dogfish Head Distilling Co. vodka distilled with honeyberries, macerated with strawberries and blended with a house-made lemonade. Light coral in color with a fresh-squeezed lemonade haze, it exudes the well-balanced tartness of fresh-squeezed lemon combined with a sweet berry taste.
I LOVE this cocktail quite a bit. It’s really got a great flavor profile. It’s fresh, bright and clean thanks to the lemonade and the flavors work so well together. I think I need to buy at least a couple of 4-packs of this flavor. My husband and I split one can and it’s a great mix of flavors and spirits. YUMMY!!
— Cherry Bergamot Whiskey Sour.
Bergamot Orange doesn’t quite look like an orange … nor taste like one now that we think about it! You may recognize its fragrant, citrusy scent and distinct flavor, as it’s the star flavor of Earl Grey tea. It’s also found flavoring cookies, custards, marmalades, syrups and … perhaps a cocktail?
“Developed to accentuate the nuances of Dogfish Head Distilling Co.’s malt whiskey, this ready-to-drink Canned Cocktail takes whiskey distilled with tart cherries and highly fragrant, citrusy bergamot oranges, and blends it with a house-made sour mix. Light amber in color, it is chock full of oak and vanilla whiskey flavors balanced by notes of citrus and dark cherries with a hint of honey, lemon and bergamot.”
The description is spot on. This was the first cocktail we tried and I LOVE this one. I love cherries and I love bergamot too (a type of citrus). The flavor is bright yet very sophisticated because of the whiskey base. I think this works well with steaks or ribs.. because the whiskey makes it such a great match.

I liked each of these spirits! They are worth buying as a singular spirit so that you could play around with them. I think the Whiskey Sour would be a year-round cocktail because the whiskey is rich in tone and the cherry bergamot flavor is really such a great match. Personally, I will be buying at least 1 4-pack of each flavor.. and I know I want 2 of the Vodka Lemonade because it’s delicious!
This Review:
This review is done with an eye to honesty about the products and the flavor profile of each of the cocktails. There is such a great authenticity to these cocktails. The brand has used authentic flavors and done a lot of work to create a unique flavor profile for each cocktail. Talk about yummy and easy to present at a party. This new brand of RTD canned cocktails are well worth the effort to find them and also the money spent for the purchase.

How were these cocktails made?
Each recipe was crafted using Dogfish Head Distilling Co.’s house-made spirits combined with all-natural, high-quality culinary ingredients to create a liquid masterpiece that tastes as if it was poured straight from a bartender’s shaker tin. Dogfish Head Distilling Co.’s scratch-made Canned Cocktails begin hitting shelves in 4pk/355ml slim cans on March 18.
