Ane Howard is an amazing artist. Her artwork reflects a creative, thoughtful artist who has found her metier in painting. She has had many exhibits where her oil paintings have been very popular. However, Howard has done more than just work with oil paints on canvas. She has taken some of her more inspired imagery and turned it into fashionable “on-trend” clothing and accessories for women along with some items for men as well. Ane Howard has found a way to blend her oil painting into sophisticated clothing that reflects some key themes that she has done on canvas.
Since pop-culture clothing has been very popular here in the U.S., particularly so here in California and it’s not uncommon for someone to run across a “must-have” design that they felt resonated with their own personal style. Howard has created some amazing designs that marry fashionable silhouettes with her artwork.
How I found Ane Howard!
Recently I got an email that told me about Ane Howard, her background, and shared the new ways of utilizing her artwork. I was immediately fascinated. I shot off a couple of emails to Ane Howard to find out what she was doing and how she was translating her favorite paintings and themes into clothing and accessories. We burned up time texting back and forth so fast that it was hard to keep up with the discussion and ideas that both of us were coming up with. We finally connected via email and I saw more of her items on her amazing website, www.fineartbyane.com.
Her designs and specific fashion choices are more than spot-on, they are ahead of the curve. Translating artwork into clothing speaks of her vision and creativity that few people have. I was fascinated to see designs of slip dresses, hooded dresses, pants, shoes, tops, handbag,s and totes and so much more! While you might find it easy to know which style of item you want, narrowing down the artistic choices (the artwork that is on that item) can be difficult because Howard’s work is very much a cross-pollination of Impressionism, a smidge of pop culture, and Howard’s own style.
As a former fashion editor for print magazines as well as websites, I find the items she has created are so unique because they create a presentation of a level of artwork typically found hanging on walls and not in a person’s closet.
My thought was to share not only her incredible artwork but to show you that you can take it with you… day after day…… and see it in your closet and on you. Particularly for Mother’s Day (and maybe sneak in some items for Father’s Day gifts), I thought Ane Howard’s clothing and accessory lines would be phenomenal, one-of-a-kind items that any mom (or dad) would love to have. After all, wearing an Ane Howard piece means you wouldn’t see the same item (s) worn by “everyone”. Another great element to her latest work is that the clothing and accessories are sustainable!
What I am sharing with you today is just the beginning of me sharing some of Howard’s other artwork that now is art meet fashion and more accessible than most paintings.

About Ane Howard:
California-resident and Montreal-born artist Ane Howard, an abstract figurative mixed media artist, tells an emotional and imaged story in the portraits and landscapes she paints. Using deconstructed form born out of the expressionist movement, bold paintbrush, and contrasting hues of colors, she imbues each brushstroke with meaning to evoke moods and ideas. Following a lifelong exploration of different art forms, Ane is dedicated to full-time painting.
Speaking about her passion for oil painting, she said, “Nothing has ever fulfilled my need for self-expression the way painting does.”
Ane’s vivid oil paintings have been shown at various art galleries in California, including well-known galleries like
–Five 3 Gallery,
–Claudia Chapline Contemporary Art Gallery,
–Teri Lang Studio,
–Marin Society Artists,
–Art Works Downtown.
Her artwork has also been exhibited in the London Tube and Berlin Metro as part of Public Art.
Her work is owned by collectors in North America and Europe.
Ane has an upcoming show at the International Art Museum of America in San Francisco. The exhibition is scheduled for July 2021.
Ane is represented by Five 3 Gallery in Laguna, California.
