Hugh Jackman, Founder, Laughing Man Coffee

 

 

Australian actor, Hugh Jackman launched his Laughing Man Coffee shop in New York so farmers in developing countries could sell their products in the U.S.  Inspired by a meeting with an Ethiopian coffee farmer named Dukale back in 1999, The Laughing Man Coffee brand was later purchased by Keurig, which now sells Laughing Man Coffee K-Cup varieties.

As part of a continued commitment to sustainability, all Laughing Man Coffee pods in new packaging are made with polypropylene #5 plastic, which is widely recyclable curbside throughout North America

All proceeds made from the sales of Laughing Man Coffee are directly invested back in the Laughing Man Foundation, which, according to the website “supports educational programs, community development and social entrepreneurs around the world.”

 

Gwyneth Paltrow, CEO of Goop

With a cruelty-free ethos and dedication to the environment, Stella McCartney’s collections and accessories are free from fur and leather. Her brand has implemented the use of regenerated cashmere instead of virgin cashmere, as well as sustainable viscose, with both efforts having a less harmful effect on the environment.

Not only does Stella employ this practice for her successful company, but also in her daily life taking steps to live as organically and environmentally friendly as she can. Whilst she is strongly influenced by parents Paul and Linda McCartney, who also have strong ​​ethical views. 

 

Leonardo DiCaprio, Founder, Blackadore Caye: A Restorative Island

This sustainable resort on a private island off the coast of Belize goes beyond the current concept of an ‘eco-resort”, as this innovative getaway focuses more on restoring the island’s natural resources instead of merely raising awareness around environmental issues and eco-living.

 

Jessica Alba, Co-Founder, The Honest Company

 

 

Recently ranked by Forbes as one of America’s richest self-made women, Jessica Alba owes it all to The Honest Company’s own brand of eco-friendly baby, cleaning, and personal care products. Valued at over $1 billion in 2014 and only continuing to grow, The Honest Company sells organic and ethically-made personal care products, and they recently moved into beauty products. 

She is also an “angel” ambassador for charity Baby2Baby and is passionate about all things family through creating products that you can have faith are good for the environment and your kids.

 

Matt Damon, Co-Founder, water.org

 

 

A list actor, Matt Damon has had quite a journey. Before his acting career took off in the late 1980s, Matt traveled with his mother outside of the United States, and during those travels, he was exposed to poverty in developing countries. Wanting to bring water to families in need, he founded Water.org, which is more than just a charity that provides safe water and sanitation for communities in need. Its WaterCredit initiative provides small loans so more people can gain access to clean water. 

Their New Ventures Fund also provides funding to innovative projects helping to solve the world’s growing water crisis.

 

Amber Valletta, Founder, Master & Muse

 

 

High-fashion model turned entrepreneur, Amber Valetta’s eCommerce site, Master & Muse, sells popular ethical fashion brands, including Veja and Matt & Nat. All clothing and accessories on the site incorporate socially responsible and sustainable practices and they partner with a number of industry leaders including The Ethical Fashion Forum and Carbonfund.org.

She once said, “We have the capabilities to change, and if companies think about people and planet first, before profit, then the sky is the limit.”

 

Pharrell Williams, Creative Director & Co-Founder, Bionic Yarn

 

 

In 2010 singer-songwriter, Pharrell, announced a new partnership with denim label G-Star Raw to create a line of jeans made with plastic collected from the oceans- in collaboration with his textile company, Bionic Yarn.

According to Forbes, G-Star had to turn its entire supply chain upside down in order to make “Raw for the Oceans” possible, going all the way back to the raw materials. That meant working with Bionic Yarn and organizations such as Parley for the Oceans and the Sea Shepherd’s newly launched Vortex Project, aimed at finding new ways to extract the plastic from the water

Bionic Yarn has also teamed up with some big names including Adidas, Timberland, Topshop, and GAP, to create upcycled clothing collections.

 

Lily Cole, Co-Founder, The North Circular

 

 

British model and environmentalist Lily Cole has played a substantial role in social responsibility, as she co-founded luxury knitwear company, The North Circular along with co-founder Katherine Poulton. According to their website, The North Circular employs a “UK network of talented home knitters” who use only natural, biodegradable fibers to create beanies, scarves, and more. North Circular’s high-quality garments and accessories are ethical, supporting animal welfare, and are low in mileage and carbon footprint.

Keeping the sheep at the forefront of all their promotion, The North Circular places a handmade tag on each item, recording the number of rescued sheep to date, at time of production.
