Summer is probably the most popular time of the year to get married. Once the bride has selected her wedding gown (along with the bridesmaid gowns), the bride has to find a great hairstyle for the wedding. For this post on bridal hairstyles, I was lucky enough to get some tips from Trace Henningsen about the hot bridal hairstyles for Summer 2021!

I know Trace Henningsen! When I met her, she had started working with clients on both coasts. I was lucky enough to snag an appointment and not only did I get a nice hairstyle, but also an update on my hair color. I was blonde at the time and she tweaked my blonde locks to get my look more on-trend. As I said, she’s an extremely talented hairstylist!
Bridal stylist and Leonor Greyl ambassador Trace Henningsen is known for her classic, old Hollywood wedding-day aesthetic.
Think: Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot. Bridal hair, Henningsen says, should be soft, feminine — and fabulous.
This summer, Henningsen says the biggest bridal hair trend is timelessness. With these four chic looks, two are accessorized with classic black bows. Henningsen explains how to make an iconic style current. Trace sent along photos to go with this piece.. so take a good look.
Classic Chignon
“This elegant hairstyle dates back as far back as ancient Greece, when Athenian women wore the style adorned with gold or ivory handcrafted hairpins,” says Henningsen.
–To create this style today, Henningsen recommends adding some texture to the hair by using Voluforme on dry hair.
“Then, gently twist the hair from the nape of your neck, coiling counter-clockwise all the way to the ends. Bend the coiled hair in half and tuck the ends into the twist. Secure with pins and finish by lightly spraying on Laque Souple to tame flyaways,” she says.
Half-Up Bardot
“This iconic 60s style was made famous by actress Brigitte Bardot. I think it is flirty and feminine, especially when accentuated with a statement bow, and the curtain fringe gives the look softness,” says Henningsen.
–To create, first use Voluforme on wet hair, then spray Condition Naturelle from midshaft to ends. This helps create natural volume and movement, while protecting the hair from heat styling.
“Next, blow dry and smooth out the fringe with a boar bristle round brush using a forward motion, then dry and smooth the rest of the hair, leaving some bend on the ends. Back-comb the crown of the hair and spray with Volumforme. Finish by taking a section of hair from each side to create a half pony, secure with an elastic, and clip in a bow,” she says.
Regal Ponytail
“Feel like the belle of the ball with this middle part and textured ponytail,” says Henningsen.
-To do, part the hair down middle and back-comb to create some height near the crown. Spray Voluforme on dry hair to keep the new height from deflating, and, using your Leonor Greyl Natural Boar Bristle Brush, smooth the hair back into a low ponytail at the nape of the neck. Secure with an elastic.
“Now, take an inch of hair out of the ponytail and coat it with a very small amount of Eclat Natural. Wrap the hair around the base of the ponytail and secure it with a pin. If you desire more texture in the ponytail, spray it with Volumforme and run a large curling iron through it. Finish by spraying with Laque Souple,” she says.
Bubble Bow Ponytail
“First, create the foundation of the ponytail as if you are creating the Regal Ponytail. Then, gently back comb the ponytail near its base to create one bubble shape. Spray the Leonor Greyl Natural Boar Bristle Brush with Laque Souple, carefully smooth any frizz, then secure the bubble with a small clear elastic,” says Henningsen.
Repeat this process, back combing, smoothing and securing bubbles until you are at the end of the ponytail. To finish, clip small bows between each bubble.
I love that Trace Henningsen has such beautifully feminine styles for a bride to choose from.
