Stevan Lee Mraovitch’s HOLIDAYS AT ALL COST Makes World Premiere
At Dances With Films; September 7, 7:00 pm
FILM Hits Film Festivals Across Europe, Canada, United States in Sept./Oct.
HOLIDAYS AT ALL COST (Vacances à Tout Prix), Paris-based writer/director Stevan Lee Mraovitch’s contemporary French dramedy about a caring father willing to go to absurd ends to take his family on an unforgettable holiday, will have its world premiere at Dances with Films festival (DWF 24), September 7 in Los Angeles at the TCL Chinese Theatre, 6925 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, CA, 90028.
A film inspired by personal experience with parents forced to make silent sacrifices to provide a blissful childhood trip for their son, the recognizable tale of struggle within the family dynamic feels universal.
“This is more than a story about an absurd and bizarre vacation,” says Mraovitch. “It is also an honest look into a family that evokes strong emotions, swinging on a pendulum between laughter and tears.”
Fred does yoga in the buff in HOLIDAYS AT ALL COST
In HOLIDAYS AT ALL COST, Frederic (Oumar Diaw, THE SQUAD, AN ORDINARY STORY, Groom) is a hard-working family man living in Paris with his Catalonian wife Fanny (Donia Eden, THE TRAVELLER, #MOSCOU-ROYAN, Tomorrow Is Ours) and their young son Max. Despite being a dedicated employee for the past decade, Fred is not confident enough to stand up to his swindling boss and is often left underpaid and overworked, struggling to make ends meet in the city. After seven long years without a summer holiday, he is determined to give his family the vacation they deserve in the South of France—by all means necessary. Desperate enough to use their rent money to finance the trip, Fred strikes a secret deal with an old friend and luxury resort director Jean-Luc (Benjamin Garnier, Chronicles of the Sun, FRENCH WOMEN, MONSIEUR FRERE DU ROI). Each day of their stay at the resort Fred must do a day’s work of Jean-Luc’s choosing and the increasingly odd series of jobs quickly begins to strain Fred and Fanny’s relationship. Jean-Luc uses this opportunity to grow closer to Fanny, reminding her of her own hopes and dreams before settling down, and driving the couple to confront their ideas of happiness and love.
Fanny and Jean-Luc relax at the spa in HOLIDAYS AT ALL COST
In the era of COVID-19, this belly-laugh-inducing film about a brief escape from the crushing realities of real life is apt for the big screen of the TCL Chinese Theatre. Shot on location in the South of France with beautiful scenes of serene beaches and spas, HOLIDAYS AT ALL COST’s extreme situational comedy will remind you of the beautiful and unpredictable world outside your own. While it simultaneously tackles the complex push-and-pull of the human experience, dramatic encounters often lead to hilarious ends. After many years in the making, including the unique challenges of directing a debut feature film during a pandemic, Mraovitch is excited to have HOLIDAYS AT ALL COST begin its festival run at one of the best-attended film festivals in Southern California, Dances with Films, for an in-person screening.
