D.B. Leighton Shares “Bethlehem’s Summit”
D.B. Leighton has written a poem that he wrote as a memorial and tribute to his mother. She had cancer and died rather quickly right before Christmas. He is allowing me to share this poem and photo with you!
From D.B. Leighton:
“Thoughts of my mom during this season. Almost nine years ago, she had been diagnosed in October and died of cancer a week before Christmas. I wrote this with her in mind, and of the long drives from New York in the dark and the cold to be by her side. To say thank you. And most of all, to say I love you, Mom. And I do love you, Mom. Always.”
Bethlehem’s Summit
So many sunsets not seen,
so many reasons to live,
so many miles we’ve all got to go,
so much love left to give.
Those nights on the road through the summit,
bitter cold shutting me down,
to see your soul migrate to heaven,
my heart wishing you’d come around.
Driving through Bethlehem’s summit,
thoughts of how my life began,
all that you sacrificed for me,
a mother does all that she can.
What are we but ashes to ashes,
when that end does come into play,
and our own flock must then cross the summit,
with God’s will, He’ll be leading the way.
