Memorial Day Sales: Who Is Having a Sale and Who Isn’t Having a Sale!
Kristin McGrath (Offers.com) has put together a great list of stores that will be open through Memorial Day and those that won’t be open at all.
Stores Open on Memorial Day 2022 (and Their Hours)
- Academy Sports + Outdoors – Stores should be open regular hours (9 a.m. to 9 p.m.) during the entirety of the holiday weekend, although it is possible that some locations may adjust to holiday hours,
so be sure to double-check your local store before heading out near closing time. You can also take advantage of Academy’s curbside and in-store pickup options if you want to avoid spending time in stores or are in a hurry. - Big Lots – Stores will be open on Memorial Day during regular store hours from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Plus, Big Rewards shoppers can get early access to a ton of Memorial Day deals
- Home Depot – Home Depot stores are generally open regular hours for Memorial Day – that’s 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. In fact, Memorial Day is a great time to shop for appliances, home goods and gardening supplies since the hardware giant has an amazing sale.
- Kohl’s – Kohl’s generally stays open during regular hours on Memorial Day. That’s 10 a.m. to 10 pm. for most stores. Keep in mind, however, that you’ll need to place your Kohl’s store pickup orders at least two hours before closing time.
- Lowe’s – Lowe’s will be open for regular store hours on Memorial Day, so you will be able to be able to take advantage of their Memorial Day savings from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m.
- Macy’s – Macy’s will be open during its regular Monday hours, which are typically 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. (this may vary location to location, so be sure to check your specific store). Note, however, that curbside pickup closes two hours early.
- Sam’s Club – Sam’s Club will be open on Memorial day from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. for Plus members and 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. for Club members. Note, the earlier holiday closing time (Sam’s is usually open until 8 p.m. on Mondays).
- Starbucks – Most Starbucks location will be open for Memorial Day, but their hours will vary by location.
- Target – Target will be open regular hours on Memorial Day, meaning you can shop in-store from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Trader Joe’s – Stores will be open regular hours (8 a.m. to 9 p.m.) for Memorial Day shoppers.
- Whole Foods – Whole Foods will be open regular business hours (which vary by location) for Memorial Day shoppers.
- Walmart – Walmart will be open during regular hours on Memorial Day. Hours differ slightly by location, but many stores are open 7 a.m. until 11 p.m.
Stores Closed on Memorial Day 2022
- Costco – Costco will be closed on Memorial Day. Costco traditionally closes on several major holidays, including Memorial Day.
- Banks – Banks close on federal holidays. Memorial Day is a federal holiday and most banks are therefore closed.
- USPS – USPS offices are closed on all major holidays, including Memorial Day.

What to Buy on Memorial Day Weekend
- Mattresses – During Memorial Day weekend, you’ll start see brick-and-mortar and online mattress retailers with “Blowout” deals of 50% off or more on mattresses, as well as online promo codes.
- Large appliances – Expect up to 40% off price tags on fridges, ranges, washers and dryers.
- Home decor and furniture – Home goods deals abound during Memorial Day sales, check out retailers like Wayfair, Target and Pottery Barn for savings of up to 35% off.
- Tools – Some of the best Memorial Day sales are at stores like Home Depot and Lowe’s, so it’s a smart time to stock up on tools, especially with Father’s Day around the corner.

- Cabela’s: During their Go Outdoors Sale, you can get up to 30% off from now until June 1.
What to Skip on Memorial Day Weekend:
- TVs and electronics – Wait on your bigger electronic purchases, as you’ll see far better deals during Amazon Prime Day and Black Friday in July sales coming up.
- Apple products – If you’re itching for a new iPad or Macbook, we recommend waiting until the back-to-school season to get a truly great deal.
- Summer apparel – While many stores run promotions on summer styles, the best sales await you at the end of the season.
- Grills – The biggest savings won’t appear until the end of the season, so if you wait on that grill purchase until Labor Day, and you could save upwards of 50%.
