Hotel Maya’s ‘Maya-Animals’ Experience to celebrate the ‘Puma’ on June 12
Hotel Maya presents its 12-month ‘Maya-Animals’ Experience program that highlights animals
whose characteristics the Mayans assigned to their deities during a Fuego Weekend Brunch!
To celebrate the “Puma,” one of the Mayan animals’ most popular and powerful symbols in Mayan mythology and culture, Hotel Maya will host
a live Mesoamerican storytelling dance performance in Fuego for educational purposes and complimentary photos on Sunday, June 12 from 12-3 p.m.
The beloved Copali-Copili Mesoamerican dance group will perform special dances to honor and tell the story of the puma.
In Mayan culture, cats were icons of power and were associated with rulership. Big cats like pumas and jaguars were used in ritual sacrifices
and for trading with other societies. The wild cats were kept in captivity scientists recently discovered as their diet consisted mainly of corn.
In the spirit of honoring these powerful symbols of Mayan mythology and culture, Hotel Maya is
featuring a different Mayan animal once a month during Sunday brunch from 12-3 p.m.
Guests and visitors are encouraged to enjoy brunch while watching the “Puma” storytelling dance performance,

“We look forward to the return of the Copali-Copili Mesoamerican dance group. They are a Fuego favorite
and have provided many memorable dance performances for our guests and team members,”
said Greg Guthrie, General Manager at Hotel Maya – a DoubleTree by Hilton.
“Our goal is to provide authentic Mayan programs each month that have an educational experience and
tell the stories and experiences of the powerful animals of Mayan culture.”
The “Maya-Animals” Experience will include live dance performances, music, storytelling, animal demonstrations, lectures,
and many other exciting events for both kids and adults to enjoy.
