Breast Cancer Awareness Month Coming to an End.

Understanding the Basics
Did you know that 12.9% of women born in the United States today will develop breast cancer sometime during their lives? That’s you, your sisters, and your friends.
Somehow, it is still a scary and taboo topic, and a lack of knowledge about it remains. Cancer is made of the same “stuff” you are made of.
It is not an invading organism. It is not an alien. It can be conquered. It can be prevented, but how?
You know those hormones that at times seem to govern your life? Those hormones can get you out of whack but also when harmonious, keep you healthy and fit. Let’s take a look.
Most breast cancers are hormone-related. Hormones are messengers that keep your body in motion. But, if they are over or under-exposed, the cell’s metabolism
can ultimately become deranged.
No hormone is “bad.” Inappropriate exposure of certain hormones in the body can result in cancer. Why?
Estrogen may interfere with oxidative metabolism, causing the cell to swell, and taking up water so it can divide, resulting in cell proliferation.
If this action is out of control, it can result in cancer.
Why does the body even have this action? Cell proliferation is needed to reproduce. However, in a healthy person, this message is controlled by hormones that
oppose estrogen (progesterone, thyroid, pregnenolone, etc.) Adequate progesterone is key!
Women with progesterone levels that are low relative to estrogen levels are more likely to get breast cancer and have poorer treatment outcomes. When progesterone
is raised to healthy levels relative to estrogen, it turns on genes that can prevent breast cancer from occurring and reduce the size of existing tumors.
Hormones are messengers and the environment is the dictator. Factors that can cause hormone imbalances:
–Nutritional deficiencies (without enough protein and B vitamins, the liver can’t process estrogen)
–Xenoestrogens in the environment (compounds that can mimic estrogen)
–Stress and radiation both have estrogenic effects
–Obesity (fat cells create their own estrogen)
-Poor thyroid function (The thyroid is needed to facilitate progesterone)
-Removal of ovaries (The ovaries produce hormones and a balance between hormones is needed for health)
-Certain medications
-Low vitamin D (vitamin D has been shown to stop cancer cell growth and plays a role in healthy thyroid function)
-Low progesterone and/or elevated blood estrogen
-The natural aging process.
-Genetics

About LOS ANGELES-based Moment for Women (https://momenthealth.co/), launched by Alannah Slingsby this year, grew frustrated with the limitations
and conflicted information provided to women seeking better health advice, especially around the menopause changes, and embarked on a journey to
develop a truly independent network where clients can interact directly with health professionals based on scientific standards to optimize their health.
In just a short few months, the clinic has helped hundreds of women improve, understand, and regain control over their health and shows no sign of slowing down.
