It’s Autumn and the Temperatures Are Dropping! It’s Time for an AVERNA Cocktail!

 

 

Here in So. California, we finally got hit with AUTUMN.. which is unusual. We have cold mornings (cold meaning California cold)  and warmer afternoons.
The weather is entirely different than what we Californians had to deal with this summer.  Averna makes a great cocktail because it fits that  transitory
weather condition that is typical of autumn. Here’s a collection of some cocktails you could mix up for the next few weeks!

 

Averna is an authentic Italian amaro originally from Sicily, created according to a closely-guarded secret recipe originating n the Capuchin abbey of
Caltanissetta, Sicily. Since 1868, Amaro Averna has represented true Sicilian craft with a story rooted in heritage and tradition. Today, Averna can
be enjoyed in the traditional Italian way – served neat or over ice – as an after-dinner digestivo; or by showcasing its herbaceous
bittersweet flavor profile in a variety of cocktails.

Here are a few of some great fall favorites, including a new cocktail Midnight to Midnight which was created at the recent Seattle Restaurant Week.

Flannel Szn 

Created by: Evan Wolf, The Company Burger, New Orleans

Ingredients

  • 1½ oz. Bourbon
  • ½ oz. Averna
  • ¾ oz. Cider syrup
  • ¾ oz. Fresh lemon juice

Preparation

Combine all of the ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake to chill.
Strain into a rocks glass over crushed ice. Garnish.

Cider Syrup:

  • 4 oz. apple cider
  • 4 oz. raw sugar
  • 2 oz. honey
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2-star anise pods
  • 1 Tbsp whole allspice
  • 1 tsp whole cloves

 

METHOD:

Dissolve the sugar and honey in apple cider over low heat and steep with spices to taste.
Once cooled, strain out the spices and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.

Midnight to Midnight — Created by Seattle bartender Adam Aly

Ingredients:

1 ½ oz. Averna

1 oz. Fresh Pineapple Juice

¾ oz. Lime Juice

¼ oz. Grenadine

3-4 dashes of cherry bitters

Method:

Combine all ingredients over ice, shake, and strain into a coupe. Garnish with a lemon peel.

Sicilian Espresso Martini

Ingredients

  • 1 oz. Averna
  • ½ oz. Espolón blanco
  • ¼ oz. dark crème de cacao
  • ½ oz. orgeat
  • 1.5 oz. cold espresso
  • 3 dashes chocolate bitters

METHOD:
Shake very hard & strain

GLASS: Large Coupe

GARNISH: Coffee beans,

Side dish of unsalted toasted almonds

NOLET’S Silver Corpse Reviver- 

 

Ingredients

  • 1 oz. NOLET’S Silver Gin
  • 1 oz. Lillet Blanc
  • 1 oz. Cointreau
  • 1 oz. Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 1 dash of Absinthe
  • Orange Peel for Garnish

Method:
Combine and then shake all ingredients together in an ice-filled shaker.
Strain into a Martini or coupe glass.
Garnish with an orange peel.

 

NOLET’S Silver Pumpkin Mule

 

Ingredients:

1.5 oz. NOLET’S Silver Gin

1 oz. Pumpkin Pureé

0.5 oz. Fresh Lime Juice

Dash of Cinnamon & Nutmeg

Ginger Beer

Any combination of Lime, Cinnamon Stick, Cranberries, Currants or Dried Ginger for Garnish

Method:

Combine all ingredients but Ginger Beer in a cocktail shaker with ice.
Shake until well-chilled and pour over fresh ice in a Mule Mug or tumbler,
Top with Ginger Beer and garnish with whatever you choose.

These cocktails are all so very tasty and the flavor blends are amazingly good.  The great part about this collection of cocktails is  that you have a choice
between Averna and  Gin.
